So, you're really hungry. We have just the thing for you. Why not try a hoagie! So what's
a hoagie you say? Ah that's a very good question. . . .
In 1953 a group of Italians working in the Hog Island shipyard in Philadelphia were known
to make these sandwiches with meat, cheese, lettuce and tomato. This became known as the
"Hog Island" sandwich, now known as the hoagie.
How do you make one you say.... Well it's a snap. First things first, the roll. They
should be long soft in the middle and crusty on the outside. Cut down to about 8 or 9 inches.
Don't forget the most important part; never cut them all the way through. They must be
hinged like this.
Now you have your roll nicely hinged and ready to be stuffed with only the finest meats and
cheeses.
For this example we will use the traditional style Italian hoagie. First, the condiments
oil, mayo, mustard or your favorite spread. Then it's time to place the meat and the
cheese. It's important to lay your meat and cheese evenly across the roll. Then we
will put some lettuce and tomato on top. The lettuce first and then the tomato. Finish
with a light drizzle of extra *** olive oil and Italian spice.
There you have it the Hoagie, those boys at the shipyard would be proud. So what are you

What's a Grinder?
The term "Grinder" can be traced back to the east coast, where, Italian Immigrants set up sandwich
shops close to the shipyards. These supersized sandwiches were a favorite of the hard working
men who ground rivets off the warships. The friendly shop owners referred to these men
as grinders and the ever-popular sandwiches also came to be known as Grinders. In addition
to the tradition, true grinders must utilize freshest ingredients, made fresh on the spot.

on top of the meat. Last the cheese and then into the toaster or broiler oven for about
3 to 5 minutes. The Grinder should be charred ever so slightly on the edges. If lettuce
and other heat sensitive vegetables are desired they should go on after the grinder comes
out of the oven.
There you have it, the Grinder, one of these will keep you grinding away at whatever you
are doing all day long. So what are you waiting for why don't you give Sal a call, at 773-935-6191?

What's a Panini
The Panini sandwich a western favorite, this toasted goodie gets its name from the Italian Panino,
which is made by stuffing two slices of hearty bread, with meat cheese and other vegetables
and just about anything the cook chooses. Much like a grilled cheese only much larger
it is grilled on its own press developed solely to make Panini. Let's take a look and see
just how they do it.
First the bread. A hearty bread is best like Focaccia, chaibatta, sourdough, or a thick
crusty Italian. These will work the best but of course you could use any type of bread
you would like. Brushing the bread with olive oil or butter will give a more crispy effect
but, if you are watching your waist line it will come out just fine without it. Pre-toasting
or using cheese on both sides of the bread will help prevent the Panini from getting
soggy when using wet ingredients Now stuff the Panini with meat, cheese your favorite
vegetables it's your choice. Close it up and press on the Panini grill for about 5
minutes or until hot in the middle. Serve right away.
There you have it, the Panini an Italian classic made into an American favorite. So what are
