I got involved with this Hawaiian language revitalization movement as a means to reconnect with my ancestors.
I am a Hawaiian and I have a responsibility to continue Hawaiian traditions.
Language is the fiber that binds us to our cultural identity and the meaning of this saying is that language is connected to our identity.
Language is relevant to religion, art, hula and even culture.
So, language is in everything we do.
If there is no language, then we do not exist.
That is why I am a part of the Hawaiian language revitalization movement.
So that the language survives for my children and grandchildren;
so that they understand and are steadfast in their Hawaiian language, culture and identity.
What I do, what we do, it is all for them.
We need to look to the future and really think about what is necessary for our well-being.
And the most important thing is the language.
