Well, pleasantly surprised. We knew that Southern Miss belonged on the list, we weren’t sure
that everyone else realized that we belonged on the list. So, it was a nice external validation
that other people realized what was going on.
Southern Miss was no. 215 on the list. There were about just under 500 accredited schools
eligible to be ranked, and there are well over 1000 business schools all over the country.
It was only the 455 that were accredited or even eligible to be ranked.
One of the biggest things was getting on the list. You can’t move up on the list until
you get there. The other thing is not to feel that our job is done. We have to continue
to innovate. We have to continue to show the rest of the country what we’re doing with
our programs and with our students, continue to add faculty ranks, and continue to produce
graduates who are the best in the country. We are able to go out and say, “Deans from
other business schools from across the country have stated that Southern Miss is one of the
better programs in the country.” That’s a huge external validation for us to go out
and tell other students in our region that we’re trying to recruit here - “You should
come to Southern Miss”.
