The world of tuning is a bit weird.
I saw this Focus and wasn't impressed.
It looks like a lot of show, and there's no accounting for taste...
...but I don't think this is a very nice rendition.
With all its silver touches and those wheels...
...it wouldn't be my car of choice.
You'd think this is just an optical tuner...
...until you open the door and see a roll cage.
That's serious stuff...
...it's not for people that just drive it to the supermarket and back.
This Focus has been tuned by Wolf Racing.
And they have quite a background with Ford and with racing.
So this is a serious machine.
Of course it has extra power.
The standard Focus RS has a 2.5 liter turbo 5-cylinder with 305 hp.
This one has 360 hp.
The sound it makes is especially great...
...it just sounds superb.
It has a different exhaust, but moreover it has a different intake path.
It has an open air filter, so you can really enjoy the intake sound.
It's a treat.
This car is full of contrasts.
The exterior is very flashy. On the inside there's a G-force meter...
...very cool but very useless.
And there's a gear stick with a display showing which gear you're in.
It's weird, there's a contrast.
On the one hand there's tuning-stuff you'd expect to find...
...in a big brochure with half-naked girls.
And on the other there's very serious hardware.
You can have engine-tuning, another chassis...
...which is 25 mm lower but not much firmer.
You can also have a different limited slip diff.
A standard Focus RS has a Quaife-diff...
...and this one has an adjustable limited slip diff from Drexler.
You also find those in AMGs and BMW M-models.
It's serious hardware that's relatively expensive to fit...
...because the whole gearbox has to come out and the diff itself doesn't come cheap either.
And it'll only really benefit you on the track or on the Nordschleife.
You can see the juxtaposition.
On the one hand nice stuff you can show off to your friends.
And on the other hand there are quite a lot of changes under the hood.
There's also the Focus RS500...
...the matte black monster we drove earlier.
That one has 350 hp, 50 more than the RS.
But for only 1,300 euro Wolf Racing can also give you that upgrade, but with 360 hp.
In that sense it isn't that expensive.
At first sight this looks like an over-flashy car.
But if you look at it longer and drive it...
...then you'll discover that it's a very serious driver's car...
...with a nice dirty edge.
