What is the best way to cook ribs?
You can apply a spice rub, before putting them in a broiler for five minutes.
That’s not enough time to cook it.
After you’ve broiled it, slow cook them for one and a half to three hours, in the
oven at 300 degrees.
That’s a wide range. How do I know how long is right for me?
Baby back ribs are smaller, so they only need one and a half to two hours. Full ribs like
spare ribs, need two to three hours.
OK. When does the barbeque sauce go on?
After you take it out of the oven, for sure. If you want to bake in the sauce, put it on
the ribs half an hour before they’re done cooking.
Will aluminum foil add to the cook time?
No, but it will help keep moisture in. Or put some water in the bottom of the pan that
fills the bottom quarter of it to generate steam.
What do I do if the ribs don’t seem done?
Throw it back in the broiler for another five to fifteen minutes.
I wish I could just slow cook these.
You could put them in a smoker at 215 degrees for three hours, before ramping up the temp
to 250 degrees for another two hours.
That’s as long as a slow cooker, but with a lot more work.
You could also baby sit the ribs while it is in the smoker, adding water to the smoker
regularly, and applying extra sauce in the last hour or two.
Or I could buy ribs from the BBQ place around the corner, and serve it.
Or you could buy Ribblets, the vegetarian ribs alternative. That can be nuked in the
microwave in five minutes, and there are no bones to clean up.
There’s cheating, and then there is giving up. Vegetarian ribs ought to be an unacceptable
contradiction in terms.
