After the declare combat step attackers are declared. To declare an attacker you announce
which creatures are attacking, and turn them sideways to show that they're becoming tapped.
The Grizzly Bears, and the Scryb Sprites will be declared as attackers this turn in our
sample game. They're an easy way to demonstrate which creatures are attacking is to move them
slightly forward. It's an easy mnemonic device. A common question that new players have is
do you have to pay the cost of the spell again to declare an attack? The answer is no, you
only have to pay the cost when you're bringing the creature into play as a spell. They can
attack for free. At this point, these creatures are being sent toward the defending player.
You can't attack other creatures the defending player controls specifically unless a rule
says otherwise in one of the cards. These creatures will damage the opponent unless
they're blocked.
