My name is Sijung Geoul. I came from Chingdow China. I'm a sophomore Cadet at Texas A&M
and I study Electrical Engineering. My name is Cheeni ***, I'm from Shanghai, my major
is Economics, I'm class of 2015 I'm in outfit K1. Howdy my name is Ian Sun. I'm the proudest
member of the 2017 class, Aaaaaa! And I'm from Squadron 3 and my hometown is Beijing,
China. Howdy I'm Alfonz Lin class of 2016. I'm from Fuja, China. I'm from I'm a member
of company B2 of Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. Talking about leadership of the Corps of Cadets
developed uh I would like to tell that it's it's definitely the it's definitely a hard
time for for me. But it's also worth it at the same time. Really thing is that this is
a great organization I have ever joined. It is a student organization it's nothing relevant
to the military there's no obligation at all. So international students are free to join
it. I think the leadership program at Texas A&M is the best leadership program in the
world. And I think by learning these leader leadership series we can be a better person,
we can be a better leader of course if you take these leadership programs you will be
a better student. Leadership development in the Corps of Cadets is really awesome. It's
like um I believe that what I feel about leadership is that um if you want to be a leader you
have to know your people very well uh that's the first thing you need to know about your
leader. The Corps is uh a 4 year program. It helps give the opportunity to the Cadets
who want to development develop themselves as excellent leaders into the business world.
Um it help you build your confidence uh uh help you learn how to uh lead your peers and
how to do teamwork and time management. Texas A&M is a Tier 1 research University in Texas.
This is the best leadership University in Texas and also this is flagship University
in Texas. So in the classroom, professors are doing research and they are going to tell
us what they what they have found. They are going to tell us what what they have done.
Their paper, their article, their work so we are going to learn from them. Talking about
the uh education quality at Texas A&M I want to say it is really the best I have received.
I bet it's much better than Ching Huan University in China because I received lots of graduate
students who come here from that school and say the same thing as I am saying right now.
Texas A&M really like it's a great University um if you're looking into it, you have like
the Corps you have you also have the civilian life is a really good blend of everything.
And it 's really well well rounded. Has all kind of high tech equipment and everything.
It's a pretty much saying it's a world the world level education with really cheap prices.
Um I believe that Texas A&M University is um a really nice place. It's like um I've
been to other places like um in California like away and for when I was like 15 and people
there are not really that nice it's like white people white kids stick together and leaving
us alone like the Asian people. And also they were just like so many Chinese around that
we don't really have to speak English so that doesn't practice our English pretty well.
So here in Texas A&M it's like um it's not like white people sticking together. It's
like um people talk to us like uh we they are being nice to us especially to International
students and they're like um pretty interested about who you are and like they talk to us
and make us feel warm like a family and I feel like, Oh, I get another family here.
And it's like it's pretty easier to join the American family and I feel really happy about
it so that's how I feel about A&M. Once you earn the Aggie the famous Aggie ring, people
all around the world know you are from Texas A&M and they will value you as a good Aggie
and the uh and all the organizations in the world like Aggies because an Aggie doesn't
lie, cheat, steal or tolerate those who do. Texas A&M provides the world with very good
quality leadership because they have really very good uh personalities. About my experience
I spend one semester in Texas A&M and right now I think there are 2 different kinds of
Universities in the United States. One is Texas A&M, the other is the rest of them.
It's very important to practice your English especially oral English speaking English it's
very important. Um practice them and you'll also have to speak confidently you speak English.
My advice is my advice for you is be an outgoing person. Because here at Texas A&M here is
a very diverse University for example in K1, which is my outfit, people are from everywhere,
it's a transfer outfit. People share different values, people have different experience.
So here we bring people together to share the Corps value. Well if I'm talking to a
High School kids coming from China, I would give him or her some advises. The first one
is actually to come as early as possible to Texas. It's because it's like uh a lot more
different from China. It's like not only about your language it's language is a thing but
it's not that big of deal as there's another thing. It's like culture shock. It's like
totally different from China. You just get out of plane and go to Texas A&M the next
day, you will feel like totally different and will really hard to adapt your life. It
would be better for you to like come to Texas a few like a months early maybe and look,
go around see people and look fro what they like and like where they go shopping and what
do they do and to experience a little bit of the environment so the culture shock wouldn't
be that bad. Especially when you're in the Corps which was pretty hard. And the second
of all I would like to advise is to do physical training like when you're back in China a
lot really a lot cause um uh honestly Chinese students, Chinese High School students doesn't
really do physical training. Like they don't we don't run like in High School because we're
too focused on our studies. So that's what Chinese education made us so. But you can
change that by yourself. You can do sports by yourself and like everyday. Well like I
was doing sports everyday before I came here but not really that a lot and kind of regret
it a little bit cause I feel like if I do a lot of sports before I came here like it
would be much better. So that's something I would like to advise; just to do more physical
training back at home. Uh I wish I would have known in High School that Texas A&M doesn't
have too many international students. So once you get over here, you don't get to leave
with your friends from the same country. And you don't have to eat with them, stay with
them, leave with them. And it's a good opportunity to practice your English your language skills
in this 4 year program.
