Is it bad to brush your hair while wet?
Why on Earth would you think that?
Oprah says it is.
First, Oprah is wrong about a lot of things. Second, if you don’t start brushing it wet,
you could end up with dried tangles that are literally a pain to get out.
I’ve heard that wet hair is swollen, so brushing it when it is wet will damage it.
The ideal time to brush it is when it is damp. It is still wet enough to have not dried in
a personal mimicry of a tumbleweed, without being so wet it is hard to handle.
What about brushing it in the shower?
If you have very curly hair, it can be tempting to try that because it looks bad when you
brush it dry without oils or conditioners to help it stay in place. Then it gets really
frizzy.
Would brushing it in the shower make my hair fall out?
No, but it means you’ll have more of it fall into the drain. Then it is a nasty mess
to clean out.
I’ve heard that brushing wet hair is bad. If I need to style it while damp, what on
Earth can I use?
A comb.
What?
Brushes can frizz it. Use a wide toothed comb instead.
Combs are no good for styling.
Use the comb while it is wet. After it is dry or barely damp, then you can use the brush.
Or a curling iron.
Or curlers.
I’m not that desperate. What can I do?
Towel dry your hair to a dampness level that you can brush or comb it while it is wet.
And don’t bother with styling it in the shower except using whatever fancy shampoo
and conditioner you like.
Shampoos and conditioners don’t style your hair.
Have you seen the commercials? A lot of the fancy ones are advertised as hair stylists
in a bottle.
More practical than a genie in a bottle.
