That's a pike tie. - Yes.
Blue jigs workes really well here, we noticed. - It took on a Pig Shad.
It that wouldn't work, try in the middle, on deeper water where the bait fish might be.
I will start off with this jig, because it looks like a big roach
What a fat fish! - What does it have in its belly?
A double strike. We didn't think we would catch more, but they are biting really good.
Release it. - He screamed.
In this episode, we will show you how we do when fishing a new water we never fished before.
This way we show you now is a easy way to find a new pike lake.
Now, I'm inside "Palle's Fiskeshop". A store like this is perfect to get good information about new pike waters close to your home.
Often, they have many customers and when they catch a big fish, they want to show the staff.
Then, the staff get to know a lot of great spots they can share to us.
In the store, you then have to be nice to the staff and buy something, so they actually reveal some great pike lakes.
It's easier if they already know you. Try to find out as much as possible about the lake.
I would like to say Gyesjön, if that lake doesn't work, try Ralången. - How should you fish them?
You have chosen the right baits - jigs. Spin fishing is the way to go. You can fish slow or fast.
Start off by fishing close to the shore and see if there are any bigger fish there. Since it's quite cold, it's possible they are on shallow water.
It that wouldn't work, try in the middle, on deeper water where the bait fish might be.
After getting good tips about lures, depth and hot spots in the lake, we decided to go and fish in Gyesjön.
To not fool you, I early want to say that Gyesjön actually is called something else.
I chose to start off with McTail, a green one.
I will start off with this jig, because it looks like a big roach and they use to eat big roach here.
Edvin is fishing with a tail and Philip a jig, so therefore, when fishing a new water, it's good to try as different baits as possible.
I will try a jerk bait - Buster Jerk in colour Hot Pike.
We will start off by fishing close to the shore and see if the pikes are on shallow waters.
Let's try some cast here, outside the boat bay and see if there are any pikes home.
Excatly as Joakim from Palle's Fiskeshop suggested, we started to fish close to the shore.
The method we use is called "Turbo Fishing". We use it when we do not excatly know where the pikes are.
This means that we slowly drifting close to the shore and only takes a few cast at each place until we find fish.
Happy? - Yes, really happy for those big pikes.
Yes, big pikes, almost personal best.
That's a pike tie. - Yes.
That's a sock.
Information is the key to succeed with your fishing.
Everytime we try a new water, we search information on Internet.
On the web page I found on Google, I can read that Eksjö Fiskeklubb owns the water and that I can buy license from Fiske-Stig.
The lake typ is also important to look up. As you can see, this lake is nutritious with humus colored water.
I then know, already before I've seen the water, that it's quite dark water in the lake.
In this case, we are lucky. The lake has a depth chart you can download. That's invaluable information.
This is how the depth chart looks like and I like to fish on hilly seafloor, with other words, on drop offs and on shallow plateau.
At the top of the lake, you can see that it's good drop offs. On places like that, I usually start to fish and stay there for a longer time.
Furthermore, the inlet between the upper and lower part looks interesting and that's where we start to catch fish.
Now we found the fish, but not any big yet. - It's not those we dreamed of.
No, but they are in spots. If you catch one, you'll catch more.
The fith pike in 15 minutes. - It's blue in its mouth.
The fins are also blueish.
Are you satisfied when you caught a blue pike? - Never caught one before, so it's better than nothing.
Blue pikes in the mouth and green on the head. But they are usually green, haha.
This one is bigger than the average pike today.
Took on Sara Fingal's favorite colour - Hot Pike.
We have fished bays and close to the shore and that has only delivered small pikes.
Instead, we will go and fish deeper water in the middle of the lake and see if we see any good drop off or big balls with bait fish.
Often, the biggest pikes in the lake are in the deeper water.
Here it's 24 feet deep. It looks like we have some bait fish here. It looks really great.
We have noticed that lakes with greater depth often have large pikes. Here we have bait fish. Let's stop here.
After we caught 10 smaller pikes close to the shore, we go out on deeper water and fish pelagic spin fishing with expectations to catch bigger fish.
Sadly, this is the biggest fish for today. - Indeed.
But a fish is a fish. - Yes.
We have had a slow fishing this afternoon but then we saw a great drop off on the sonar.
Blue jigs works really well here, we noticed. - It took on a Pig Shad.
You can catch them.
We have caught 16 pikes or something this far. This is absolutely the biggest one.
The second biggest is around 5 lbs.
Fun with a better fish in a new lake, I must say.
We continued to fish and only 5 minutes later, Philip also catch a fish.
What a fat fish! - What does it have in its belly? Filled with roach.
It took on a Wingman from Eastfield Lures close to the boat.
Release it. - He screamed.
Poor little fish.
Look at it. What a fatty.
Now I have a better fish.
- Does it take line? - It does.
Well, a nice one. - Now, everyone caught a better fish in this lake.
It was big. -Yes, a nice fish.
It has a big head.
A quite good fish, bit still not the biggest one.
We went back to the jack bay, where we caught so much small pikes.
I then put on my Hot Pike again. If there are much smaller pikes, it must be bigger pikes who eats them and the Hot Pike looks like a pike.
The day is coming to an end but what many do wrong is that they go home before it's getting darker.
The last light can sometimes be extremely good since it's the last hunting light before darkness.
A double strike. We didn't think we would catch more, but they are biting really good.
They are 1 pounders, but it's fish.
I made a spin stop and then..
When we where about to go home, I made a very long spin stop to fix my stuff and then it started to pull in my rod and it was a pike.
It's hooked hard. - You caught the first fish and the last fish on the same lure.
It was nice. - Thank you for today.
See you next time.
Edvin refuels the engine so we have enough to get home.
