We threw Barbie dolls off of a balcony....
with rubberbands, like bungee jumping.
(mumbles and laughter)
We had studied how math has patterns.
Traditionally they give an equation, plug a number and make a prediction.
In real life we study the situation, try to find the pattern and the relationship.
OOOOOO.
Oh it touched.
Okay, he touched, that persons dead.
I just wanted them to look at the patterns...
So we dropped our bungee Barbies...
from the table top, the door ceiling and the mid landing...
and they calculated how many rubber bands
it took to get that effect, standing up and falling over.
Our first measurement was, we hit the ground.
Then our second we got 9 inches, then teh third we got 4 inches....so...
Some just sort of, you know...it's just a fun activity we're going to go out and toss Barbies over the edge.
But I think of them begin to see the relatiosnship
and that will last with them more, in real life and say
okay, its not all heres an equation just plug it in....
It's the critical thinking we want to try to develop.
That's my goal, to get htem to think critalcally.
