My memories with the Sayyed, Hajj Hani Abdullah; ep. VII
In the last moments of the life of the Sayyed, I remember in the night prior to his death,
I asked his doctor, Dr. Samir A’lam, about his health condition, and he told me: The heart of this man refuses to surrender
Indeed, this was the Sayyed who never surrendered to anything
We were going through the bitter and harsh moments of farewell
at those moments we never felt that we have to rest or sleep
we felt that if we lose the Sayyed, we will actually lose the entire world
In the last moments, the doctor came down and told his son, Sayyed Ahmad: “A few moments and the heart of the Sayyed will stop,” and this is what happened…
I do not want to talk about that moment during which I felt the world has gone black
when I looked at His Eminence having known that his vibrant heart has stopped beating
A moment I will never forget in my entire life
I felt that this great person, who offered everything he had for the sake of Islam and who was a role model,
was saying to me as I was looking at him and at his shining face, as Imam Ali (a.s.) once said:
“Yesterday, I was your companion, today, I am an example to be pondered, and tomorrow, I shall leave you
Take your lesson from the state I am in – my quietness, pacifism, my eyes can hardly turn in their sockets, and my limbs can hardly move
This is clearer to you than words of advice”
I do not want to talk about myself, but I have lived with His Eminence the conscious period of my life;
the period during which I gained the most of what anyone can gain at the emotional, cultural, mental and scientific level
This period was also the golden and essential period in my life,
and I believe that in this period we were raised and taught as we were supposed to, and we prayed how we were supposed to pray
It was the Sayyed who taught us how to face life, and it was he who taught us how to face death
