My name is Pontus, I'm 24 years old and I work as an art director.
Job: Art Director [hired]
My hobby is graphic design, that's what I'm interested in. And that goes hand in hand with my job. My profession is about solving a client's problem in a creative inventive way.
I think that a good art director listens to the client, uses their thoughts and ideas to move it to the next level. All my childhood I've been playing computer games,
and in 7th grade I started playing around with Photoshop. Instead of just consuming and playing I wanted to create. And I felt that I wanted to learn more about graphics and do a graphics education.
When my friends chose Science I felt that that wasn't what I wanted to study the next 3 years. So I chose the Media program instead. Then my knowledge developed with different schools.
At the university in Gävle I got to doing the Design part while others chose Programming and other parts. So I felt that was the direction for me. I want to work with design and create things.
The reason why we play Guitar Hero or table tennis is to get a break from work. You can't sit all the time and create and find good solutions, you need breaks during which you can communicate
and new ideas might surface while playing table tennis or Guitar Hero.
A day for me is getting here at 9 in the morning, checking my mail, getting updated. Usually I have around 2 meetings a day when we talk about projects that we're working with.
Or meetings about completely new projects. The day usually ends at 18, usually. Then it does happen that the nights get late, all through the night sometimes, when you have way too much to do,
or something's gone wrong, or you've missed something. Could be anything. But usually the day ends at 18.
My role here has not just been as an art director, it's evolved over time. You usually start as a designer, getting designs that you rework a bit. From there you become an art director.
That's the usual path. There are so many things you can learn. Over the two years I've worked here I've thought "I can't learn more, I've reached the limit", and the next day you're surprised.
You discover how you feel your personal development all the time, it just increases.
