It is a very happy day for these students and for OSU.
It's unlikely that we'll ever see a competition with
this kind of result because of
how competitive these programs are so we're just going
to sit back and enjoy this and let these 4 students have fun. It was the shock of a lifetime because it's unusual to
have that many in a competition
that only awards 80 out of around 800 or 900 applications. So just
the enormity of the accomplishment for the students at OSU brought me to my knees. These competitions are so stiff
that just having one is a thrill, to have 4 is out of this world. I really was surprised coming down the hallway
getting to hear everyone in the room waiting for all four of us was really exciting and
shows that they really care about us a lot.
I applied through the native american side.
I wrote about childhood obesity among native
American population so that's an area of interest of mine that I still
hope to keep researching and keep impacting tribes and children across the country.
I want to go into conservation science and
this is a
scholarship about conservation and environmental science so it was a cause
very close to me and hopefully where I will have a career.
I applied for the native american health care and my topic was
smoking cessation and I work clinical neuroscience lab and that's about
tobacco cessation and everything.
I'm going to clinical
psychology graduate school and try to stay with health care.
It was really exciting that we have 4 scholars this year since that's
something no university has ever done in the country.
It's really exciting to be a part of that. I'm looking forward to seeing what it'll
be like to have 4 OSU scholars at the Tucson conference in August.
