Environment Commissioner, Greater Sydney Commission Rod Simpson defines what resilience means in the context of the Greater Sydney metropolitan area. From the Great Nepean Flood of 1867 to contemporary heat waves, he argues that our response to risk and climate change must evolve. Developing resilience in the face of this risk, he argues, will require not only policy, planning and design responses. Community engagement and the building of social capacity will be equally critical. This presentation was made in the UTS Great Hall on 19 July 2017 as part of the UTSpeaks public lecture series.
