Hello everyone.
This is the first part of the video tutorial
“How to crochet a raglan sleeve cardigan”.
In this video I’ll show you how to work the cardigan from the top to bottom
using a triple crochet stitch,
how to increase and decrease chains,
and join front and back parts together.
The written instruction how to make this top is available at:
interunet.com/how-to-crochet-triple-stitch-cardigan
I’ll crochet the cardigan from the top to bottom and for the neck line make a foundation chain
of sixty chains.
For the first row insert your hook into the fourth chain from your hook
and work triple crochet one
into the fourth chain.
This first triple crochet will be
the beginning of your front part.
Then work
one V-stitch. For that, triple crochet one into the following chain.
Then chain one, and again triple crochet one
into the same base chain.
So, this triple crochet one, chain one, triple crochet one into the same base chain – this V stitch.
Then work triple crochet fourteen.
These fourteen triple crochet will be your
first shoulder part.
Then work again V stitch – triple crochet one,
chain one, triple crochet one.
For the back part work triple crochet twenty two. Then again V stitch,
and triple crochet fourteen for the second shoulder piece.
Again, after the V stitch I worked triple crochet twenty two for the back part.
Then again, V stitch, triple crochet fourteen for the second shoulder part.
Again, V stitch, and into the very last chain of the row
work triple crochet one.
This will be your beginning of your second front part.
At the end of the row work three returning chains and turn.
Second row.
Into the fourth chain from your hook work triple crochet two into one chain or one increase.
Then into the chain above
triple crochet of the V stitch
work again increase.
Triple crochet two into one chain.
Under the chain of the V stitch work V stitch.
Under – triple crochet one,
chain one,
and triple crochet one under the chain.
Into the chain above second triple crochet of the V stitch work increase.
And then work triple crochet fourteen.
After your triple crochet fourteen
above V stitch of the previous row
work triple crochet two into one chain above the very first triple crochet of the V stitch.
Then work one V stitch under a chain.
And above second triple crochet
of the V stitch work one increase
totally the same as you did here.
I call increase into a chain,
V stitch under a chain,
and increase into a chain
above V stitch of the previous row – “a corner”.
Work corners above V stitches. Then work triple crochet twenty two
above this V stitch work a corner, and so on.
I worked triple crochet twenty two to my
following V stitch of the previous row.
And then I worked the corner.
Then again, work triple crochet fourteen
to my next V stitch of the previous row
and work the corner again.
After that, after the corner
I will work one increase into the very last chain of the row.
At the end of the row work three returning chains, and turn.
The third and all other rows work like this.
Work increase into the fourth chain from your hook.
Then work triple crochets to your following V stitch of the previous row.
Above each V stitch work the corner.
So, increase above triple crochet.
Then work triple crochets
to your following V stitch of the previous row.
And again, above the V stitch
work the corner, and again triple crochets to the next
V stitch of the previous row,
and again, work the corner, and so on.
At the end of the third row
after last corner
work triple crochets to your last one chain of the row.
And then one increase.
At the end of each row work three returning chains, and turn.
Again, fourth row work like third one.
Again, work increase into the fourth chain from your hook.
Then work triple crochets to your
V stitch of the previous row,
and work the corner, and then just repeat –
work triple crochets to your following
V stitch of the previous row,
and work the corner, and so on.
Triple crochet rows
increasing chains in each part
until you crochet seventeen rows.
After the seventeen rows, or until your
front and back parts will be wide enough
to your chest circumference accordingly
join two fronts and back part together.
For that, start the eighteenth row as usual
increasing to the fourth chain from your hook, and then triple crochet to your V stitch.
Then, instead of the corner,
above first triple crochet of the V stitch work increase.
Then, under a chain work one triple crochet.
Then skip shoulder part,
and where you have following
V stitch of the previous row,
work triple crochet under the chain
between two triple crochets.
And then again, work increase above second triple crochet of the V stitch.
And again, triple crochet to your following V stitch of the previous row.
I triple crochet to the end of my back part, and
above first triple crochet of the V stitch
I work increase. Then under the chain
I will work triple crochet one.
Then just like here, I will skip the shoulder part.
And where I have following V stitch,
I will work triple crochet
under the chain between two triple crochets.
And then again increase into the following chain.
Then I will triple crochet to my
last one chain of the row,
and will work increase, and three returning chains.
At the end of the eighteenth row,
after you work increase into the very last chain,
work three returning chains, and turn.
Now just triple crochet rows
decreasing one chain under arm on each side.
So, now just work one triple crochet into the fourth chain
from your hook. And then
work one triple crochet into each chain
to your side. And then I will show how I decrease one chain.
Again, I started the nineteenth row without the increase.
I worked just
triple crochet one into the fourth chain from my hook.
Then I worked triple crochets underarm.
And now I will decrease one chain. For that –
I will work like unfinished triple crochet.
Just pull the yarn
two times
through the first two loops instead of three.
And then again, do the same into the following chain.
Pull the yarn two times.
When you have three loops on your hook –
draw the yarn through all three loops on your hook.
That’s how I decrease one chain.
Then again, work triple crochets
to your following underarm.
And then decrease one chain here as well.
Just like here I will decrease one chain.
Then I will work triple crochets to end, and three returning chains.
The twentieth and other rows
work as your nineteenth row,
decreasing two chains in each row –
one chain on each side.
I triple crochet eight rows decreasing two chains in each row –
one chain from this side, and one chain from that side.
Then I just triple crochet one row without decreasing chains.
Now I will triple crochet rows decreasing two chains in each row –
one chain from the beginning of each row, and one chain from the very end of each row.
And then, every other row, I will increase
two chains – one chain from
this side, and one chain from this side.
Again, for the twenty eighth row I plan to
decrease one chain from the very beginning of the row.
So, at the end of my twenty seventh row
I will work two returning chains instead of three,
and work triple crochet one into the fourth chain from my hook – one, two, three, four.
Then I triple crochet to my side.
And then I will increase one chain.
After your triple crochet to your side underarm,
work one more triple crochet
into the same base chain
to increase one chain.
And then triple crochet to your other side,
and increase one chain here.
And then triple crochet to your
last two chains of the row.
And decrease one chain.
Again, underarm I increased one chain.
And at the very end of the row, when I have just two chains left,
I will decrease one chain.
Then again, work two chains,
and turn.
Row twenty nine.
To decrease one chain work triple crochet one into the fourth chain – one, two, three, four.
And then work one triple crochet into each chain
to last two chains of the row.
And then at the very end decrease one chain too.
Do not increase chains from the sides.
Then just alternate twenty eighth and twenty
ninth rows. So, decrease two chains every row.
One chain from the beginning,
and one chain from the very end of each row,
and work two returning chains.
And increase two chains every other row –
one chain from one side and one chain
from the other side.
After you crochet the desire length of the cardigan,
decreasing two chains every row,
and increasing two chains every other row,
leave it for now,
you will work with that later.
In the second part of the video tutorial
I’ll show you how to crochet sleeves,
work the borders, and finish up the project.
