We met for the first time on a TV Show called "One Shot Not" hosted by Manu Katche
That's where I had met Krystle Warren and then Hugh, who was playing with his band
It was a little frightening to think about replacing Krystle. I like her a lot and am a big fan of her music.
The first few concerts, I wasn't all that comfortable.
I was always thinking what Krystle would do, how she would sing
and was trying to follow in her footsteps. Then just before a concert we were doing in La Rochelle
I just realised by doing so, neither I nore the band would enjoy ourselves.
So I really let go on this one,
Eric and the band thought it went well and encouraged me in that direction.
There's this Brasilian word I like a lot It's 'Saudade'.
The emotions behind 'Saudade' are a mix of melancholy, something a little sad and dark
but with a certain positive aspect, some joy.
That influences me a lot.
The lyrics for "Winter Heron" or "Snow Falls" for example reflect that completely
I also wanted to work with Hugh Coltman, Emi Meyer, and Mamani Keita
because they all have their own very discitinctive personalities, which you can sense through the music they write.
I have a full trust in the people I work with,
so for me it's obvious that they are going to understand the music.
This natural feeling is the reason why we do music.
Luck is not a big part of it, when it clicks it's because it's meant to and you're with the right people.
Voices have always been important in my life, during my childhood, writing all those songs,
I love working with voices, I have a natural way of playing around them,
I don't have any problems with it at all
I feel comfortable, as it brings me more clarirty in the music I write I really enjoy it.
