We're here to apply for a wedding license.
¯ What the world needs now ...
We're here to apply for a marriage license.
We were just wondering if we could get
in line to request a marriage license.
We would like to get a marriage license.
We are here to apply for a marriage license.
We're here to get a marriage license.
We'd like to get a marriage certificate please.
Are you of the same sex?
¯ It's the only thing ...
North Carolina does not recognize
same-sex marriages.
The law in Ohio by both statute and Constitution
is that only a man and a woman
can be united in marriage.
It would be my joy to give you a marriage license today.
I am not allowed to issue one under the laws of California.
I apologize but the state of Colorado does not allow us
to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
The state of Texas does not allow
us to issue a same-sex marriage license.
Do you know if the law allows anything like
domestic partnership or civil union?
No, it doesn't.
You're going to get a domestic partnership?
What are you going to get?
Five or ten rights?
Are you kidding me?
Ten rights? Thirteen hundred rights?
We're here because, you know, there's still a debate in this country
about whether or not they can respect our love.
We just want to celebrate Valentine's Day also.
We want to get married.
We just wanted to raise awareness that everyone should get to celebrate Valentine's Day.
¯ What a wonderful world ...
¯ The colors of the rainbow
¯ So pretty in the sky
¯ are also on the faces
¯ of people going by
¯ I see friends shaking hands
¯ saying how do you do
¯ They're really saying
¯ I love you
What you did now is not good for what you're doing.
It doesn't help the cause.
We are law-abiding citizens
but we, today, on Valentine's Day
are taking a stand against an unjust law.
We have to keep going. Our love has to be respected.
That's what it comes down to.
¯ Stand and fight together, we shall not be moved
¯ Just like a tree planted by the water ...
All over the globe
people are achieving recognition, legal recognition,
of what has long been true.
What God has joined together,
no one should put asunder.
I'm going to give you this IOU.
And when the day comes it will be my joy to issue a marriage certificate for you.
¯ We shall not be moved.
We'll see you next year.
We're going to do it every year.
We'll keep coming back until you say yes.
Maybe this will be the last year that we have to do this event here in California.
All men are created equal!
I pronounce your marriages solemnized
good, and real, and true.
¯ Seasons of love
