Hi, welcome back again to dig DUS, the videomagazine for Duesseldorf.
Today we plan to go to the Berlin Wall and in order to get there
you don´t even have to be in Berlin because a part of it is here in
Duesseldorf.
(thrilling music)
Right, we take the tram until "Stadttor" and then we walk on.
(whistling melody of the Smurfs)
The Rhine Tower is already there.
and if you go to the Berlin Wall, all you have to do is to orientate yourself by it.
dig DUS!
(Boing, Boing)
(Boing, Boing)
Ok, we move on. If you want to reach the part of the wall, best you can do is
not just to cross here, but simply follow the path and
take a turn left
And then we pass this beautiful park. (Blubb blubb blubb blubb)
and now we are there.
Only a few metres and then we made it.
And here we are.
This chunk is 3 metres high, weighs 3 tons and has been a symbol of repression
for 28 years.
and today ist stands for liberty and freedom.
(starts to laugh) Wait a second. Yes and that´s why... Shall I continue talking? (camera operator): No worries)
and you might ask yourself, why only one side is painted on
and the other
is blank.
The reason is that
you could paint on the West German side, without interference and in
East Germany this was forbidden that´s why
so, this is the East German side....
West... West German side....
(giggles) Stop. Now I´m lost... Oh right. Got it.
camera operator: Naaaa, want to try again? EJay: YEEEEEES...
camera opeartor: No worries.
You might ask yourself, why this
is painted, this side here
and the other one
not.
Okay that doesn´t count!
Anyway, because this is the East German side
and this the West German part,
exactly and that´s why you could doodle along and on the other side
it was forbidden. (APPLAUSE)
dig DUS!
You possibly ask yourself, how long this chunk has been standing here hier steht and where it does come from,
that´s on you to find out I won´t tell you that today.
That´s written down here and it´s fun to check out the park
because the park is really nice, you can chill out here
and you can go to Rhine Tower or
visit the parliament, as you like it.
I relax here for a while
and hope you are having a fantastic day. Until next. Take care.
