Lisa. Thanks Carl. Well more and more people are turning to beauty salons rather than
Dentist for Teeth Whitening and while they may promise you a Hollywood smile for
a fraction of the price
this Adelaide woman was bruised, blistered and unable to brush her teeth
for a month after her treatment. To tell us more about the dangers a Teeth Whitening
I'm joined by Dentist
Dr Fadi Yassmin, Good morning, good morning Lisa
how common is the response that this woman had? It was pretty dramatic we
understand
after going to one of these treatment kiosks?
I don't know the exact
statistics but you have to understand that these kiosks
are set up by non-professionals, so there is a risk in handling
certain peroxides and these whitening gels. So there is, there is a high chance
that this could happen. Everybody wants the Hollywood smile though, as we are
seeing right there,
what is the difference between what a Dentist does to your teeth and what they're
doing at these kiosks?
The difference at the Dental Surgery
is that you getting a true assessment because not everyone's a suitable
candidate
for Whitening. Meaning what the teeth themselves aren't in
necessarily great condition or the gums aren't? It could be the gums. It could
be the teeth. It
could be some sensitivity issues.
There could be underlying cavities all these need to be clarified and assessed prior
to
recommending a whitening system. Part of
what a lot of people are attracted to is that these kiosks
are a lot cheaper than going to the Dentist. What is the difference in the
price?
Look, depending on certain cases but there is a substantial difference
but at
the end of the day that the cost is,
in the and the cost is. You can't put a price on the damage that might occur.
but in terms of dollars. What does it cost if you go to a
dentist and what does it cost at one of these kiosks?
Well you could get Whitening Treatments at a
Dentist for
a few hundred dollars. Some of these from what I've seen the ad, the adverts, you
looking at 75 to 100 dollars
so there is a substantial difference. So if people do want to go to these kiosks what
should they be asking
before I have the treatment done? Well I will be recommending you go to these
kiosks.
just don't go? Just don't go. OK, doctor thanks very much for your insight.
