Alright! I've uh... we've owned this guy for 3, 3 and a half years. Charter Arms Lavender Lady .38 Special.
Lavender. They've got it in red and pink and a couple other colors I don't remember.
Anyway, .38 Special. Because it's made from aluminum, uh, I think it's rated for +P, but they don't recommend that you do
so we've just got some standard .38 Special rounds. Holds 5 rounds. Let's see what we can do with it.
I've always been a terrible shot with this, but... maybe we can change that today.
Zombie sodas down there. Let's see what we can do.
Small little guy!
That's it.
Did I tell you? I'm a terrible shot. We'll try a few more of those and see what we can do.
Since I'm such a terrible shot, my son's going to give it a try here.
Stu (from behind camera): Shoots a little high.
Alright, another 5 rounds.
It's a good thing that zombies are so slow. Otherwise they'd get away -- we're such a terrible shot with this guy, but...
Let's try it again.
Alright...
Wait a minute. Wait a minute, wait a minute. Come with me.
Look at that! We actually did hit this guy.
Somehow it didn't explode. It just sat there. We didn't even know!
Tricky zombie. Playing dead -- because he actually was dead, but...
All right. We'll go over the othe... We'll go after the other one, his compadre over there.
Last zombie. Five rounds. Here we go.
Wow! I'm just a terrible shot. Five more. Five more rounds! Let's go!
One way or another, I'm going to use this .38 Special from Charter Arms to take out that zombie.
I don't care if I've gotta go through my entire box of 50 rounds, go back into town and buy 50 more rounds and completely waste all of that, that zombie soda's dying by .38 Special!
[Grunts in exasperation]
You know, 5 rounds just doesn't go very far does it?
Five more rounds!
Here we go. I think, what is this, 20? We've done 20? So this will be 25.
I've got a good feeling we're going to get it this time.
It's a little gun. It's hard to get a nice comfortable grip on this.
I've got excuses for everything. It's a girl's gun for crying out loud!
What'd I tell you?
That thing was gonna die one way or another.
Going after that orange hopper now.
Alright! I guess it just takes 20 rounds to get me to warmed up.
There you go. Uh...
You know, I've got all sorts of excuses for why I'm missing. I mean, seriously. What do you expect from a gun that's purple
and is called "Lavender Lady"? [Laughs]
No, it's actually a pretty nice gun for what it is. And obviously it's accurate if you know what you're doing.
I mean, if you're pointing it in the right direction you'll hit what you're pointing it at, so...
A fun little gun. We'll put some more rounds through it, okay?
I don't know if you can see that, but this is what shooting the .38 Special does to me.
It bumps my finger around and there's a little lump there now, and it's actually... a little bit of blood trying to come through.
It cuts me that gun! It makes a better knife than a gun.
At least for me it does since I'm a terrible shot with it. But there you go.
Alright. This is, uh, since this is single/double action, as you might expect from a modern revolver,
I'm going to go ahead and go double action on the hopper down there.
Probably be my last 5 rounds because my finger, seriously, is about ready to start bleeding.
So, last few shots here.
Okay. As you can see, I'm a terrible shot double action. And I was flinching quite a bit there.
But there's something I want to show you.
It finished its job.
It really tore me up.
So just be warned! [Laughs] Apparently the Lavender Lady doesn't like men.
Alright. Hey guys! We're back here indoors with the Charter Arms Lavender Lady.
You know what? ...
It's got some nice font lettering right up here, telling you that it's a Lavender Lady.
Here's what I don't understand.
On the other side... ugly font!
I'm not a lady, so I guess I don't care.
Anyway, Lavender Lady. Nice lavender color there. Made from aluminum.
You can see... we just got back from taking it shooting, repaired the bite that it gave me, and uh...
So obviously it's dirty, not that it wasn't dirty before. I have cleaned this one one time before.
But, uh, anyway we got it nice and dirty so...
Uh, you know, this is the first -- it's actually my wife's gun -- it's the first, and so far only, revolver that we've ever owned.
And I've fired lots of other revolvers -- not too many of them though so I'm not that experience with them.
I don't know a whole lot about them, but hey, I'm going to talk about it anyway!
Five round capacity, it has 5 rounds -- uh, cylinder holds 5 rounds. .38 Special, +P not recommended but we do have +P rounds
that we use as defensive rounds, and we have fired +P through it before. You just don't want to do it a lot.
You know, aluminum. Aircraft-grade aluminum. It'll stand up to it, but it's not designed to do so.
And so any time we take it shooting, we just do the regular rounds through it. In fact...
This is what we were shooting today. American Eagle I picked up at the local shop -- the only place that had any rounds left
and so I was able to grab a box. Just 130 grain .38 Special, full-metal jackets. Pretty standard target round.
And, uh, had a lot of fun with it! And, you know, it's a little guy. I had a hard time getting a nice, comfortable grip on it.
I don't know what it was. But... you know, this thing bites me. It always has from the first time we got it.
Another thing that happens sometimes is sometimes powder comes out through the side of the cylinder and gets me in the face.
That only happens when I'm at a range and I have walls on each side of me. Doesn't happen, doesn't seem to happen
when I'm shooting outdoors, so I don't know if those walls have anything to do with it, or maybe it's windy
when I'm shooting outdoors and so instead of blowing in my face it blows to the side. I don't know.
But I found that interesting and I talked to one other owner of one of these and he said, yeah, same thing happens to him
when he's shooting indoors. Not a big deal.
The only thing with me is, you know, when I'm firing this guy it's got a pretty good recoil. It's small, it's light.
Even though it's shooting kind of the relatively weak -- what some people would consider weak -- .38 Special round,
it definitely bites me when I shoot it and you saw that happening when we were out there.
Um... you know, pretty standard revolver otherwise.
Now if you're not familiar with revolvers, you know automatic pistols have a firing-pin block on them.
This guy has something really similar. All modern revolvers do have a similar type of block on it.
And let me show you how that works. Because personally, I find it pretty interesting how they got this to work.
Okay, if you see right there...
That... Charter Arms calls that the hammer block. Underneath that hammer block is the firing pin.
Uh, like, if you didn't know anything about revolvers you might think this protrusion, right here on the hammer,
is what actually strikes the firing pin. But it's not.
This actually strikes...
right there.
And beneath the protrusion actually strikes the hammer block, which strikes the firing pin and causes the weapon to fire.
And so if we release the hammer and let go of the trigger, you'll see the hammer block go down,
and therefore, if I were to release it from here the weapon would not fire because the hammer block goes down,
which is the part that actually strikes the firing pin.
Now if I hold my finger on the trigger, like you would do when you're firing, you'll see the hammer block stays in place
and the hammer will strike the hammer block and cause the weapon to fire.
Basically the equivalent of a firing-pin block in an automatic pistol.
And so a little safety device in case you ever wondered, "Hey," you know, "are these things safe? If I drop it and it lands on the hammer, is it going to cause it to fire?"
No, it won't.
Don't know what else to say about this. I mean, it's a fun little gun.
It obviously, uh...
Um, you know, being small and light you know, I get bitten by it. I guess I need to change my grip on it or something.
I was a terrible, terrible shot, and me and revolvers have just never gotten along that well.
But hey, you know, I gotta say for this being my first revolver ever, I kinda like it! It's fun. It's fun you know.
I just have to be careful not to let it chew up too much of my finger when I take it firing.
I don't have anything bad to say about it. I can't find any fault with it. So, anyway, thumbs up from the Stu.
I'm not gonna say rush out and get one if you don't need one or if you don't particularly want a .38 Special snub-nosed revolver
But if you do, hey, take a look at it.
Like I said, my experience with revolvers is quite limited, and so I can't really compare, but for what it is
I liked it. It's fun.
I don't put too many rounds through it because I'm just not that big of a revolver guy, but... thumbs up.
So have fun at the range, and stay safe out there okay? I'll see you next time!
We're not done yet!
