Now we are going to have a little fun with the base. The keyboard bass is used a lot
like in acid jazz like Jimmy Smith, Greg Green plays with a lot of hot organ players as well
that does a lot of left hand bass. There is kind of an art to left hand base. It is not
going to happen over night but a good way to look at it is to go in each degree of the
scale and go through and do like a walking baseline. So we will take the root of G. So
now you only have 7 notes in the scale so bebop cats adds an extra note in there so
they can have 8 notes and can get through a whole 2 measure and land right on the root
again. So the trick is landing on the root on the down beat. So 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3,
4, 1, 1
and as you can see I can use a lot of notes out there on the scale like 5th to the 3rd,
1, 3, out out in. The main focus is to land right on the root of the note so now we can
do that and go into the 2, so let's go 1, 2 so now A is the root and we are going too
make the 5 D the root
and then back to G. Then you can do stuff with triads like reggae base is a lot of triads.
So I am playing the triads of each voicing E triad, A triad and E triad. It is the rhythm
and the way you play that really brings out that bass.
