I got my start with Young Eagles when I was 13.
My first taste of full-size airplanes came with the EAA.
And when I was down there I was instantly hooked on airplanes - everything about airplanes.
My dad used to take my sisters and I to air shows all the time when we were growing up,
and one summer we went to the air show in Oshkosh and I had my first Young Eagles flight
in a Breezy, and after that I was hooked!
The next summer after my Young Eagles flight I went to the EAA Air Academy as a camper. And the summer after that I went back as a counselor.
Other flying I do outside of the airlines - I have an airplane that I own with my husband.
It's a Cessna 120 and we fly that in our spare time.
I got my first start in aviation back when i was 10-years-old with radio controlled aircraft - where I really
learned a lot of the basics of aviation and flying. I was a camper in the Academy back in 1997 where
I got my Young Eagles flight. And it was a great experience being around other kids that
liked to fly - and especially having adults that really helped you along and showed you the
right path to take and exactly what's involved in flying full-size aircraft. I liked the program so much that I stayed on
a number of years as a camp counselor and an instructor both in the classroom and in the workshop.
If it wasn't for the Young Eagles program and EAA, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be where I am today.
I got my start with the Young Eagles program actually by accident.
Back when I was 10-years-old me and my mother were washing our car out in the front yard
and out comes a low flying hot-air balloon, which one of them actually landed on our street.
So naturally we went by and checked it out and the guy told us that he came from a fly-in
just down the street and that we should check it out. So we did.
Ever since then I've been always volunteering with the Young Eagles program.
