Hello. I'm Kathy Kie.
WorldCat Discovery Services is an exciting new suite of discovery applications that enables
FirstSearch libraries to offer an even richer discovery experience.
This suite was created using FirstSearch user community feedback, and it delivers a new
user experience and expanded e-content resources.
FirstSearch users will benefit from:
A new search experience optimized for use across devices including smart phones and
tablets;
Access to a central index representing nearly 2,000 e-content collections which includes
more than a billion articles, e-books and other e-content
And use of CONTENTdm "quick start" to manage access to digital collections
FirstSearch users who maintain their holdings in WorldCat will also get:
Direct link resolution to full-text resources for your library's e-content subscriptions
based on data in the WorldCat knowledge base
A built-in A to Z list
And your library's holdings will be listed first in the search results.
You can also tailor WorldCat Discovery Services for your specific needs, by choosing to purchase
additional options:
Show users what is available in your local library collections through the Real-time
availability status.
To maximize the value of your group affiliations use a group- or consortium-view of available
resources.
You can build temporary collections of resources through the management of course reserves
and reading lists
And integrate searching across all your library subscriptions, using the remote database search
feature
Adobe® SiteCatalyst® is available for customized usage reports.
WorldCat Discovery Services will be available to all current FirstSearch subscribers in
March 2014 as part of your existing subscription, with optional features available in
July 2014.
FirstSearch will operate in parallel during a year-long transition, allowing you to choose
your own migration timing.
To get started, register for a WorldCat Discovery Services webinar for FirstSearch users on
the OCLC WorldCat Discovery web page on oclc.org. This webinar will
provide additional information on features and transition.
As always, you can contact OCLC Support with any questions.
Thank you for your interest in WorldCat Discovery Services.
