Alright. Whether you're replacing high beam, low beam, or dual beam
headlight bulbs, the process is the same. If I were you, I'd replace both
the high or low beam headlight bulbs at the same time. That's because all
headlights dim over time, and you definitely don't want to drive at night
with two headlights that have uneven or mismatched intensity. It's
distracting to you and to oncoming traffic.
Naturally, with something as important as headlights I recommend using the
best. With Sylvania SilverStar ULTRA bulbs you'll see farther, wider, and
better.
Installing a new headlight bulb is a snap. The only thing that might keep
that statement from being 100 percent true is whether your car has a lot of
stuff in the way, like a windshield washer fluid tank or a battery getting
in the way of the headlight. If you do have that stuff in the way you might
have to remove it to make room to work. As you can see in this case I've
got plenty of room, so let's get to it.
There are three basic types of installations. Let's start with the more
common one, the screw in type. But, before we get started, a few tips.
Always make sure to be wearing your safety glasses and gloves. And there
you're geared up to go. One final thing, make sure to never touch the bulb
itself. Always handle it by the base.
Okay, first, grab the bulb base, this part right here, and give it a
counterclockwise twist and remove. Then, unplug the socket from the bulb.
Just lift this little catch and pull the socket out. Now, plug the socket
back in. Notice how the bulb base has these cute little ears on it that fit
into little slots in the headlight assembly. You'll need to line these up
when you put the new bulb in. Then, just push the new bulb into the
headlight assembly and give a clockwise twist. And, presto, you've done it.
The second type of installation is the retaining clip type, which you can
see right here. Just like before, unplug the socket. Next, grab this clip
right here, lift, and pull. Then, just pull the bulb out of the headlight
like last time. Insert the new bulb. Snap the clip closed, and plug your
socket back in. Piece of cake.
The final installation is the retaining ring type. You begin the same way
by unplugging the socket. But then, instead of twisting out the bulb you
have to twist out the retaining ring. Just grab the ring, twist it
counterclockwise, and pull it out. Now, grab the bulb by its base and pull
it straight out. Then, pop the new bulb into the headlight assembly. Screw
the retaining ring back on. Make sure it's tight. Plug the socket back in,
and you're done.
Congratulations! You did it. Looking good.
