Whats going on guys, my name is entak, and welcome to learning the game. This is a new
series I will be starting on my channel dedicated to guiding you through the War Thunder world
and helping you along your way as you progress through the game. If there is something you
are looking for specifically and I have yet to cover that in this series, you can always
check to see if it is in my beginner tutorial and guide video series which I will link in
the description below. So in the last episode of learning the game
we discussed the beginning basic steps to starting the game, discussed the interface
and what everything means, and covered other basic information. In this video we will be
discussing important areas of the game such as crew slots, crew skills, modifications
and plane research, and if we have time we will discuss the tutorials and getting started
with some flight basics. We left off last time as we were about to
start discussing the lower portion of the interface and hangar screen. If you look at
the bottom of the screen you will notice several things. There are various tabs with other
nations, there are the individual crew slots, there are planes in the crew slots, tabs above
each plane, addition options to recruit more crew, the research tab, the automatic repair
and refill options, and the to battle tab. Lets first start by discussing the crew slots
and what this all means. Each nation has the ability to recruit multiple
crews that will have their own individual crew skills and you are able to put planes
in each slot and cycle them in and out. Each crew is essentially made up of a pilot, gunners
(if applicable to the plane), and ground service crew. Each tab down here with a plane in it
is a crew. If you look at the top of the window you have a couple thousand silver lions. If
you look down below you see that you can recruit additional crew by clicking the tab and purchasing
that slot for 5000 silver lions. Click on the crew slot and it will ask you if you want
to purchase it. Hit ok. Now a small window should appear when you select that crew that
says research, send to holiday, and then you should see another reserve plane you can put
into that slot. Click the plane. You have now put another plane with that crew and essentially
have three planes you can take into battle now. If you click the arrows below the slot
you should see the same tab be brought back up. Clicking the research button will bring
up the research tree for that nation. Here we see all of the planes available for this
nation currently. This is where you can research other planes and we will talk more about this
in a bit. The other tab, send to holiday, will put that plane on holiday thus removing
it from that crew slot. Now you should see it say, choose vehicle. Click it again and
select the plane to put it back. Now you will notice that another tab has unlocked
and you can recruit another crew for that slot. However, until you earn more silver
lions, you won't be able to unlock the crew. Lets now take a look at the other tabs above
each crew slot. The first tab is the modifications tab. Modifications are improvements you are
able to research. They function as upgrades to your plane or give you the ability to equip
additional armament if the selected unit allows. We will talk more about modifications here
in a bit. The next tab are your crew skills. Crew skills
function as an increase in skill for your crew that gives you benefits ranging from
better stamina and vitality, to repair and reload speed, to gunner abilities if the selected
plane has gunners. We will also cover this more in depth in a bit.
The next tab is the customization tab. Here you can change the camouflage type if the
plane has various camos and add decals to your plane. To add decals, simply click a
tab that says "no decal" and look through the available decals. You will see that you
are able to unlock new decals through achievements or by purchasing them with golden eagles.
To apply a decal to your plane, click on the one you want. After that, you can hold down
the right mouse button to free look around the plane. Move your mouse to move the decal,
holding alt and mouse wheeling will turn the decal and holding shift and mouse wheeling
will shrink or enlarge it. There are also options to flip the decal or make it two sided.
The next tab is the test flight tab. In this window you can set up options to take your
plane out into a test flight. If you want to test out a plane before purchasing it,
you can always test fly it to see if you like it. The mission editor tab in the bottom left
allows you to set up custom parameters and configure the test flight in more in depth
ways such as a combat situation, number of planes, the weather and more.
The next tab is the historical information tab. In this tab you are able to read about
the plane, how it was used, and major events it took part in or what it is known for.
Also at the bottom below the to battle button are two options you can keep ticked or untick
if you desire. These are the automatic repair options and automatic ammo refills after battle.
If your plane is damaged in battle or you use your ammo, these two boxes will both auto
repair and auto refill your plane. We will discuss the to battle area at the end of this
video. For now, lets go back and discuss the modification
area of the game and explain that more in depth as it is very important. After we discuss
modifications we will discuss the crew skills and slots more in depth.
So, click on the modifications tab at the bottom above any of the planes. A new window
will appear showing you several things. You will see the plane, the ability to buy a backup
plane with golden eagles that allows for you to take another instance of the exact plane
into battle. You will also notice the talisman tab which can be purchased with golden eagles.
Talismans allow for you to gain an additional 100% RP when using that unit. Below that you
will notice the offensive armament that lists what you have on your unit. Secondary weapons
that allow you to select and install additional armament such as bombs, rockets, or addition
guns if the plane allows. Also depending on the plane you are using, you will notice additional
tabs listing offensive ammunition rack upgrades. We will discuss ammo more in depth in another
video, but for now lets just say you can unlock ammo upgrades that allow you to get ammo racks
that have additional benefits. For instance, click the tab and you will notice several
other offensive ammo racks. In this instance I could select universal ammo once I research
and purchase it and this allows me t get a different ammo rack that should act differently
than the default ammo rack. If you have secondary guns or back gunner turrets, you will also
notice other tabs here as well. Also in the window you will see the modifications
or as some call them, the upgrades a plane can get. You have various tiers of modification
upgrades as well as categories. You have flight performance, survivability, and weaponry.
Each category has their own benefits and can cause varying behavior to the plane. To read
about the modification and what it does for your plane, hover over it. With the I-15R
under fuselage repair you will see that it says that this modification allows for the
replacement of damaged elements of the fuselage skinning, removal of openings, and surface
finish to reduce drag. You can see the change to the aircraft parameters and the calculation
of changes to the specs. You will also notice in the bottom of each tab how many research
points are needed to unlock it, how much it costs to purchase, as well as if you require
any previous modifications or if the amount per tier has yet to be met. To show what I
mean by tiering, lets look at the I-16 type 18. On the side you can see small numbers
that read 0 of 2, 0 of 1, etc. In order for me to unlock the second tier of modifications,
I first need to unlock 2 modifications from the first tier and then one from the second
to unlock the third and so on. Also, an important note about modifications
is that you have the ability to start researching modifications and it is important to research
the one you desire to focus on before each battle unless all have been unlocked. You
need to first research the modification and then purchase it before you can install and
use it. To start research on a modification, simply click it. A window will appear stating
that the modification research has been started. You will gain research points towards modifications
after battle. After the battles are over, you can simply purchase the ones you have
unlocked and if you have any additional earned modification research, indicated in blue in
the corner right here, you can apply that to other modifications. If you do very well,
you might be able to unlock and purchase multiple modifications from playing one match. Also,
you are able to start researching a modification and stop research on it and switch to another
modification to research if you desire. Any progress gained towards researching a modification
will remain until you complete the progress. With modifications being covered, lets discuss
the crew skills. Each crew has its own crew skills which allows you to configure the crew
in various ways. Lets say that I wanted crew 1 to be a fighter crew specifically geared
towards using fighter planes. I wouldnt want to put any crew skills into the gunners tab
as those skills only affect AI gunners, and only bombers and some attackers have gunners.
A common misconception is that fire accuracy and fire precision affect the overall performance
of the pilot or the plane itself but it in fact does not. These skills only affect the
ai gunners. If you look in the bottom corner of the window you will see that with this
plane selected I have zero gunners. Additionally, you can check each plane to see if it has
any gunners in the stat card of the plane or right here if you are unsure. Lets say
that I wanted crew 2 to focus on being a gunner crew. Well then I would only primarily put
bombers or attackers in this crew to make use of the gunner skills. You could additionally
configure something like an attacker crew that is a mix of both. Starting out it is
wise to consider how you will play and what each crew will do, but after a lot of play
time and as you progress through the game, you might find your entire crew skills being
maxed out like I have on some crews on my main account. Later on it doesnt matter as
much, but starting off it definitely does so keep that in mind.
So, what are these individual skills and what do they do? If you hover over each skill you
will see that it lists off what each one does. So under the pilots tab you see we have various
skills. Keen vision affects the pilot's vision and visual range that the pilot can detect
an enemy in the direction he is looking. The more you have in this skill, the greater the
maximum distance. The awareness skill influences the range at
which enemies are detected in the vicinity, around the aircraft but not directly in front
of it. The higher the skill, the earlier the markers for the enemies become visible.
G-tolerance is the tolerance of positive and negative g-forces. In the mouse aim mode,
this skill affects control accuracy of the aircraft.
Stamina allows the crew to resist fatigue for a longer period of time; their accuracy
and g-tolerance gradually decrease, depending on the time spent in the battle session and
the number of gs sustained. Vitality is the health of the crew members
as well as the speed of their recovery if wounded.
Under the gunners tab we see a couple different skills as well. The number of experienced
gunners shows how many experienced gunners you have. If the aircraft has more gunners
than the number of experienced gunners, the crew will not run at maximum performance.
Fire accuracy is the accuracy of the gunners' fire and the fire precision skill allows for
a reduction in the scattering of impact points of the gunners. The other skills are similar
to that under the pilot tab. Under the ground service we see other skills
as well. Repair speed is the mechanic's skill essentially. The higher the skill, the higher
the rate at which the aircraft is repaired in the hangar and at the airfield n battle.
The Repair Rank skill is also a mechanics skill. This is the maximum rank of aircraft
the mechanic can repair. Reload speed affects the rate at which weapons
are reloaded in the air and at the airfield during battle.
Weapon maintenance increases the efficiency of the aircraft weaponry. This skill is important
as it reduces the overheating speed of primary weapons as well as the spread of bombs and
rockets. Under the qualification tab you will see a
list of planes that have been put in the crew slot at some point and you can upgrade their
qualification to add additional points to your crew skills. You will also see the needed
crew level to upgrade the qualification. You will gain crew level as you progress through
the game and invest in crew skills. If you purchase the basic qualification upgrade with
lions, you will see a message reading what you have bought and to switch the machine
to see the bonuses received. If you bring up the plane and look under the tabs you will
notice an additional 30 skill to keen vision, awareness, fire accuracy and precision, as
well as repair speed and reload speed. If you purchase the expert qualification using
golden eagles, you will see an additional 20 added on for 50 in total.
Additionally, you can purchase crew xp points that allows you to further skills by clicking
accelerated training. Here you can purchase specific amounts using golden eagles. Crew
XP points are awarded after battles and accumulate until you use them. Click the plus sign on
the side next to a skill to assign crew points to various skills. Additionally, if you amass
a large amount of points, you can simply click on the bar. With that being said, hopefully
you have a good understanding of modifications, crew slots, and crew skills. Lets now talk
about the to battle button and area. The to battle button takes you into battle.
If you hover over the tab you will see a couple things. At the top it shows the country you
are using. You will also notice the various game types. Arcade battles is a mode where
a simplified flight model is used and the location as well as the aircraft selection
is not tied to any historical events. In arcade battles you have two opposing teams but you
are able to have mixed teams of all nations. Arcade battles matches you against similar
tiered planes with pilots of similar abilities of all different nations. Your team consists
of random players from random nations as well, unless you have set up a squad before battle.
We will talk more about arcade specifically in a later video, but for now know this is
the easiest of the modes with the ability to take out more than one plane and have essentially
more than one life. Realistic battles, previously known as historical
battles, is a mode where missions take place where real battles of WW2 and other military
conflicts occurred. Players are divided into teams by countries who originally participated
in the conflict and players can only choose aircraft of the country whose side they are
on after joining the battle. In Realistic battles, aircraft behave realistically such
as running out of fuel, ripping wings off at high speeds, and running out of ammo and
then having to return to the airfield or carrier to rearm and repair. We will also discuss
this more in a later video. Simulator battles is a mode similar to realistic
battles in regard to locations and in the way players are arranged into teams. In simulator
battles the controls, the performance, flight characteristics, and aircraft behavior drastically
differs from other modes. For example, there is no third person view, no markers, realistic
controls only, and the lengths of the missions can differ as well.
In the to battle window you will also see an invite to squad tab that allows you to
invite others to your squad. Clicking this will bring up your contacts menu. Additionally
you will notice the current server. By clicking on the "any available" text, you will see
the option to change server. Lets say you have high ping or significant packet loss
in a match due to your internet speeds and would like something potentially better, you
can click a different server closer to your location. The average waiting time is also
listed. Once you click to battle you will notice a
new window appear. This is essentially your virtual waiting room. You are able to see
the various tiers and how many people are waiting in each tier, the various nations
and how many people are in queue for those nations at those tiers, and the waiting time.
Once the matchmaker has configured a match for you, you will be put into battle. We will
talk more about the battle aspect of the game in another video.
One last thing to note before the end of this video, under the research tab you will see
the nation's tech tree. You will have a plane being researched by default but you are able
to change that to something else if you desire. Just like with modifications, simply double
click it or click research to start research on something else. You can hover over the
various planes to look at the stat card, see the specs, check out the armament, and more.
Additionally you can click the information tabs, customization tab, modification tab,
and test fly the plane if not in red. Also note that on the plane tabs you will see the
RP required to research it. Remember, after each battle you will earn RP toward unlocking
both modifications and the plane you have researching. I might cover this more in a
later video but it is also important to note that researching a higher tier plane using
a lower tier one can affect how efficient the research process is. Also note that you
can click the convert tab under the plane that allows you to use that convertible RP
towards the research process. This does however cost golden eagles and you can see the conversion
cost if you adjust the slider. Just like with modifications, you will also notice that on
the side it shows you the required number of unlocks for each tier until you can progress
to the next tier. You will need to research something in order of the branch of the tree
to get to ones below that in later tiers. With all of that being said, that is going
to be it for this video. In the next video we will cover the basics of flight, tutorials
which will help you get started, and going into battle. If you are new to the game, welcome
to the game and welcome to my channel . Feel free to subscribe for more war thunder tutorials
and content. Relax, have fun, and stay positive. I hope you guys liked the video and if so
