In an exclusive interview with CBS — President Obama took a step back to reflect on his past
three years. He says his biggest mistake was thinking policy was the main goal. Here’s
what he says he should have done.
“... to tell a story to the American people that gives them a sense of unity and purpose
and optimism, especially during tough times."
Mr. Obama’s critics have long said the president is all prose and no policies — exactly the
opposite of what Mr. Obama told CBS. A conservative blogger for Hot Air says — the president’s
statement is like telling someone during an interview that your biggest weakness is “trying
too hard”.
“It’s an almost completely meaningless self-criticism: The point, as is always the
case in ‘messaging’ complaints, is to compliment yourself on the correctness of
your policy choices while blaming their failure on some facile communication problems.”
But news commentator TJ Walker says the president is spot-on about his biggest weakness — adding
that the commander-in-chief didn’t do enough to combat the GOP’s smear campaign.
“And, in fact, he did make a mistake by not spending more time selling his vision
of what’s good, and also telling the truth about these Republicans and what despicable
liars they are.”
Meanwhile — Mr. Obama’s presumed opponent in the November elections used the president’s
comments as an opportunity to issue a statement on what he thinks Mr. Obama’s greatest weakness
is. Fox News has that statement from Mitt Romney’s campaign.
“The President continues to demonstrate that he is out of touch with the U.S. economic
reality. He believes the private sector is doing fine and the economy is headed in the
right direction, 23 million Americans out of work could hardly disagree more.”
Obama’s full interview will air on “CBS Sunday Morning” this weekend.
