Hi! My name is Brenda Thompson, registered dietitian and owner of Life Skills Nutrition.
In this segment, I'm going to talk about hypoglycemia complications. Hypoglycemia means low blood
sugar and can be very dangerous. Signs of hypoglycemia come in 2 stages. Stage 1: the
person begins to develop anxiety, maybe blurred vision, sometimes dizziness, extreme hunger,
headaches, heart palpitations, shakiness, sweating, rapid pulse, and/or weakness. In
stage 2: if these symptoms have not been taken care of in stage 1, they can start going into
stage 2, which become extremely dangerous. The person may become very angry, start crying,
confused, disoriented, have double vision, inability to concentrate, irrational behavior,
loss of judgment, loss of nerve and muscle control, muscle twitching, and slurred speech.
Those with diabetes should consult their medical team for advice on treatment of these complications,
as they can result in unconsciousness, seizures, and even death.
