In HelpHippo's intro video to S3 and S4, we suggested that beginners concentrate on rhythm:
F#CK...you're screwed, F#CK...you're screwed. well F#CK...you, well F#CK...you
For headphoned questions and textbook examples, differentiating rhythm should be enough.
Ken...tucky, Ken...tucky
Kentucky works rhythmically, since nobody says:
“Kentuck...y, Kentuck...y”
Unfortunately, while some say: tennes..SEE
others say: TEN...nnessee, which sounds like KEN...tucky.
and this confuses many students.
Further confusion is from this mnemonic:
a STIFF....wall
but people don't normally say: tenNESsee
and a STIFF...wall sounds a lot like:
kenTUCKy.
a STIFF..wall, kenTUCKy a STIFF...wall, kenTUCKy
So if you want these “traditional mnemonics”to work,
don't (conversationally) pronounce: KenTUCKy, KenTUCKy
sloshing IN, sloshing IN
or: TEN...nessee, TEN...nessee
a...STIFF wall, a...STIFF wall
Instead it is: KEN...tucky, KEN...tucky
SLOSH...ing in, SLOSH...ing in
and: tenNES...see, tenNES...see
a STIFF...wall, a STIFF...wall
HelpHippo recommends:
F#CK...you're screwed and
well F#CK...you
