did you know
the combo system coming from Street Fighter never really was plant
found in the game Street Fighter 2
there was a problem with the combo system, the problem was they were a bug
not a feature combos where a design accident
Lead producer Noritaka Funamizu noticed that
Extra Strikes were possible, during a bug check on the car smashing bonus stage
he thought that the timing requiered was to difficult to make it an useful game
feature
left in as a hidden one. As skilled players found
more of the combos it became a feature in the game Super Street Fighter 2
where hits, which were chained together, have been counted
In later games, the combo system was expanded, leading to simple combos like punch and kick
and later to harder, more skilled combos, called super combos first shown
in the street fighter alpha series...
did you know
In street fighter 2, ryus taunt after beating opponents reads in japanese as,
if you cannot overcome my shoryuken you you don't stand a chance
Of course Shoryuken was the name of Ken and Ryus dragon punch
the translators from capcom must not have been paying attention
because they had no idea what shoryuken was despite Ken and Ryu saying it
every time they uppercut. They assumed it was a chinese name
The word shoryuken as it was written in japanese,
becomes sheng long in Chinese and so the secret street figher boss mysterie
Sheng Long was born. Later, many magazines, internet forums
and such posted ways how to fight sheng long
him still not being in game. While Sheng Long was just a mistranslation
the legend grew so large that Capcom treated the name as canon.
until the street fighter alpha years came by.
this leads to a post of a man working at that time with Capcom
according to the IT employee Allen Noon on the Shoryuken message boards
says that
Capcom wanted to have Sheng Long in the
game
But because of the limited time, they couldnt finish the character and his artwork
artwork still many fans assumed that somehow Gouken, the master of Ryu and Ken
was created that way which you later see in Street Fighter 4...

there are many secrets about Street Fighter characters some of the today
well-known characters have gone through several ways of design
before coming and final in game character the original concept for
Dhalsim for example was that he would be an six armed
man with the head of an elephant the first concept sketch looks like the
Hindu god Ganesha
this however changed because of the thought that this could be a reason for protesting
over the time the character became the Dhalsim we know today !
same things also happened to the character Vega
originally planned off as an English knight Vega had to go to a lot design
stages before he became the Spanish ninja we know today
the picture here shows pretty good, how he still resembles the Vega we know today
especially his mask his stretched out fingers
and his muscular body
did you know in the original Japanese version of Street Fighter 2
there was a black heavy boxer named Mike bison who also made an appearance in the
first street fighter using only his first name
this of course was a tribute to the famous boxer mike tyson
there was that masked asassin named Balrog and there was the most powerful leader of Shadaloo
called Vega who was also the final boss of the game
When Street Fighter was released in North America they rotated their names to
avoid possible lawsuit from the famous boxer mike tyson
so Mike bison became Balrog, Balrog became Vega
and Vega became became M. Bison, because of the m being
a shortcut for mighty or master, fitting good for the final boss
