Ramsey: What people don't hear us talk as much about
is our unrelenting committment to this community.
We are to be a major Metropolitan research university and that
means we do all we can to improve the quality of life for
the people of our community and that's what today's announcement
is all about. We are very proud of our committment to the community.
And it is embodied throughout the university and again today
we are so appreciative of Priscilla Hancock and our I.T. folks for their
leadership and for making this day possible.
(Hancock)We all care, in fact, I.T. has a committee that is dedicated, called
"I.T. Cares", to community outreach. And, in 2008, Kim Johnson, who is
a member of our I.T. Team said, "You know, we really need some bears."
Her son is on the Metro Police Force they were low on bears. She said,
"Could you raise 200?" We raised 1100 bears. And this (applause), yes!
And they make you smile! I mean they're addictive. Bringing in bears
gets to be addictive. This year when the need came up, we want 2000.
(Ernspiker)Thank you for thinking of Kosair Charities and our Bears on Patrol
Program. All of these wonderful bears that you see in front of us today
will be distributed to law enforcment agencies across the state to
be given to children in dramatic situations, whether it's a car wreck,
domestic dispute or otherwise. In the ten years that Kosair Charities has
had the bears on patrol program we are proud to say that we've distributed
over 200,000 bears statewide, through Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
Kosair Charities is a wonderful organization and a great place to work.
And we are so very proud of our great partnership that we have with
the University of Louisville. And on a personal note, being an alumni of this
great school and a current graduate student here, I would like to
say that it warms my heart to be able to see the great pride that U of L takes
not only in our community, but in the children of this community as well.
