Willis is a 13-week-old German Shepherd
puppy. He's actually come from a breeder who specialises in breeding police dogs
and dogs for security work in Doncaster.
His father's actually called Rory who's a serving GMP police dog.
So hopefully it should be in his genes, he's going to be a natural police dog.
He lives at home with me, with my
family and other police dog and pet dog.
He's currently staying in the kitchen till it's a little bit warmer and he's
old enough to move out to his kennel.
He's doing basic clicker training
with food rewards, to enourage him to perform actions.
and commands that he wants to do,
and in return he gets a yes command
followed by his food which is either cheese or hotdog sausage,
or a little bit of his normal food.
He can do a sit,
he can do down,
recall,
hand targeting which
hopefully will help with heel work.
He started on basic heel work,
and he's also on straight leg
pattern tracks at the moment, at this early stage. Tracking human
footprints
he'll do about 15 - 20 metre
straight leg track at the moment at 13 weeks.
Hopefully we can start progressing that.
