There's so many wonderful things about Haywood County. I think what I love most is the authenticity
of the people. Sense of community, I think there's great culture. I love the mountains,
obviously when people come here to the mountains they come to see the biodiversity, the amazing
trees and plants...
Well Haywood County has a proud, proud history in this area because it was settled right
after the Revolutionary War and so you have a house in Clyde in the center of the county.
It's called the shook house and it's one of the oldest houses of its kind in the Western
part of the state and it's still a museum so people can come to see that. We also have
the Shelton House which is the NC Handicrafts Museum and it's a handicrafts museum unlike
any other in the state.
Made here locally with local resources by people that live within the community.
You can dine in one of our restaurants...the products that are made here locally...buy
some local ingredients that are reinterpreted in new ways by very innovative chefs. Locally
made craft beer, go to a farmers market....have an experience.
You can, in the morning visit a trout farm and in the afternoon stroll any number of
our Main Streets and visit with local business owners. Haywood County has more peaks or mountains
above 6,000 feet than any county in the Eastern United States. It has some of the purest water
in the country if not the world because all the water here in Haywood County is created
here. You've also got some wonderful opportunities to hike along the Appalachian Trail which
runs part way through Haywood County. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park which
is one of the most visited parks in the United States. Hiking, see nature, the Blue Ridge
Parkway, festivals, you can go skiing at Cataloochee Ski Area. You can go fly fishing in all of
the creeks and rivers. We have an incredible backdrop as far as the mountains and the beauty
of the resources. We have people that are very artistic, it's a very artistic community
that's kind of infused with a lot of great, different pieces of culture as far as food
and agriculture, industry and I just think that it's just a really unique place.
