Hello Everyone My name is Joyce Fu I live in Sydney Australia now originally I came
from Taiwan Last year I traveled to Cambodia and Laos for two months I was shocked by the
living conditions there Behind me it is a map of Laos There is a lack of basic services
which people in developed countries take for granted such as clean water electricity proper
roads and transportation The most shocking thing is that the Lao people are still suffering
from unexploded ordnance (UXO) forty years after the Vietnam War Between 1964 and 1973
more than 270 millions cluster bombs were dropped by the Americans in the so called "Secret War"
It made Laos the most heavily bombed country on earth per capita It is estimated that
1.5 million people were killed and up to 30% of the cluster bombs did not detonate
In the last decade approximately 300 new UXO casualties were reported every year and 40%
of them were kids Laos is one of the poorest countries in the world and UXO contamination
is a key cause of poverty and is one of the prime factors limiting the country's long-term
development Today like Laos there are still countries suffering from cluster munitions
even the international treaty Convention on Cluster Munitions which took effect on August
2010 to prohibit the use production transfer and stockpiling of cluster munitions
there are still countries not ratified some financial institutes still invest in the
manufacture of cluster munitions The first part of this project is to raise public awareness of
Laos history and to raise funds for UXO cleaning organisations Mines Advisory Group and
Norwegian People's Aid The events will take place in Sydney, Melbourne and Taipei. The second part
is to campaign against three Taiwanese banks investing in cluster munitions production
The campaign will probably start on December Corner Link is a start-up social enterprise
founded by me and this is our first project Please support us and thank you very much
for your time
