Hi, this is Miranda Thacker with your KYTC Minute.
In a recent segment, we announced the arrival of the 2012 Official Kentucky Highway Map,
which commemorates the Transportation Cabinets 100th anniversary.
The map’s cover spotlights this year’s theme – “There’s Only One” – by
showcasing unique Kentucky-made automobiles.
One is a 1922 Dixie Firefly Speedster. It was made in Louisville by the company now
known as Kentucky Trailer Company. “There’s only one” Dixie Firefly left in the world
– and this is it!
Also, car buffs know “there’s only one” Chevrolet Corvette. And Kentuckians know “there’s
only one” place where it’s made – the GM assembly plant in Bowling Green.
The Corvette featured on the 2012 highway map is a Centennial Edition Z06.
The photo backdrop is of course the Belle of Louisville. The Belle is the oldest continuously
operating steamboat in America and was designated a national historic landmark in 1989.
