So Michel, all that red that we are seeing with the Liberals
please help us see it tangibly
So if we want to see where the Liberals won their election
This is the map at the last election in 2007
Deep blue is PQ Blue, light blue is ADQ Blue
Obviously Red is for the Liberals
See here, Central Quebec is very ADQ Blue
Now take a look at what's happening tonight
We see quite a bit of red
Although there's Lotbinière in Central Quebec that didn't change
For the remainder, it changes to red all over
Please take note Bernard that the Parti Québécois
won big during the last election
in these ridings in what we call resources regions
you know, this region forming some sort of crescent from Abitibi to Gaspésie
Look at this tonight, it's a lot more diverse in colouring
There's lots of red
Saguenay is withstanding the onslaught
In Côte-Nord and Gaspésie, there are gains for the Liberals
Let's take a look at other places with many gains for the Liberals, that is, the Quebec City region
That's the surroundings of Quebec City at this moment
But look at how it used to be last time...
It was ADQ Blue all over the place
And tonight, they are ridings that for the most part went to the Liberals
Now in Quebec City...
So there used to be adéquiste ridings
Tonight it's a little more tedious. An all-red Quebec City.
The capital is red except for Taschereau, Agnès Maltais' péquiste stronghold
So these are the changes for tonight, at least for the moment (20:45)
So thank you Michel
So Michel at the big screen
I'm guessing it's in the 450 where something's going on
Yes, the ADQ surprised a lot of people last time
by entering into the 450, taking the Greater Montreal Area
Not Île Jésus (Laval), not the Island of Montreal
but you're seeing ADQ Blue a little bit around
Well, the Parti Québécois is making important gains a little bit everywhere tonight
Let's see where it's making those gains
Well, it's making them essentially in the 450
This was the old map, now let's look at the new one
You see there's a lot more blue
and more red too
Essentially on Montreal's South Shore
But in Laurentides-Lanaudière, traditionally a good region for the PQ, a stronghold
Well every riding is currently changing to péquiste blue
whereas on the South Shore, it's a little more varied
There are liberal ridings and péquiste ridings
There are still some tight races
But we realize tonight that there is no remaining ADQ riding in the 450
So this is the difference between the number of seats for the ADQ relative to last election
Most and foremost, it's because they lost the Greater Montreal Area
Of course what we will remember the most tonight is
this total ADQ meltdown
We mentioned it several times, so now let's see it in colours
The ADQ is third more often than not
Indeed if we want to explain why Mario Dumont kinda got discouraged
of his party's progress, we have to look at something
This is an electoral map at the previous election
Look... I'm warning you, if you are an Adéquiste, you won't like to see this map
This is the map of parties finishing third in each riding in Quebec
It's ADQ almost all over
Adéquistes are finishing second (or first) in a bunch of ridings around Quebec City
But that's it. Everywhere else - we can look at the 450...
It was a region where the ADQ made interesting gains at the last election
If we can get there... voilà
If we look at the 450, again Adéquistes are finishing third
If Mr. Dumont decided to quit the battle tonight
maybe it's a little because of this
ADQ MPPs aren't beaten by somebody, by a couple of hundred votes
and have a chance to come back another day
No, it's really, "what the wave brought, the wave is now taking it back"
and they are ending up in third position in every region in Quebec
except in the Quebec City region
Thank you Michel
So Michel, you are telling us about what, the Liberals?
The Liberals did make a couple of gains
Made qui a few!
They also made a few gains at the expense of the Parti Québécois
Not only at the expense of the ADQ
Those are made in the crown of "resources regions"
The Parti Québécois in 2007 literally won the entire crescent
Look at this, from Abitibi, through Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean, all the way into Gaspésie
A single riding eluded them: Ms. Normandeau's riding of Bonaventure
Please look at what it looks like today
There's some red on the map
They're winning ridings in Abitibi - some battles aren't over yet
We see Dubuc going the other way
We see Gaspé going to the PQ (sic)
and further away you would also find Îles-de-la-Madeleine going from PQ to the Liberals
just like Gaspé
"Resources regions", that's where the Parti Québécois took everything last time
This time, that's where Liberals are making gains at the PQ's expense
Well. You're saying Gaspé at the expense of the PQ?
Why yes, a Liberal gain?
Oh yes, indeed, a Liberal gain at the PQ's expense. Very well.
