This is a virtual presentation of the Dia de los Muertos exhibit at Santa Barbara City
College’s Luria Library. Dia de los Muertos translates to “Day of the Dead” and is
an ancient holiday originating in Mexico. Dia de los Muertos honors the dead and helps
to connect families with their loved ones who have passed away. Far from being a somber
event, celebratory symbols like marigolds and calaveras—which means skulls and often
appear in a sugary form—create a light atmosphere. The Dia de los Muertos exhibit is just one
of the ways SBCC celebrates cultural diversity.
