Hello, and welcome to EyeglassRetailerReviews.com .
Today I'm taking a look at a glasses purchase from Eyeglass Direct.
If you're visiting from YouTube and want to see the full write-up, or read up on
another online retailer, feel free to check out the EyeglassRetailerReviews.com
website.
Now it's been a few years since I've done a purchase review for the EGRR
site and this box has actually been sitting on a shelf since
2009.
I know. Yikes! So it's now 2013 and probably time to open it up
and take a look, so here we go.
Just to give you an idea as to what I ordered,
the glasses themselves were $28. The AR coating was a
whopping $28, and shipping to Canada was about $9,
bringing the grand total to about $65.
As you might guess, that's definitely on the higher end of the discount
price spectrum.
Now I ordered the glasses on October 29th, they shipped within a week, and
18 days was the total between the time I ordered the glasses and the time
I received them in the mail.
So here we've just
pulled the case of the package
and got everything all opened up, and just kinda pushing on the case to make sure that
if a mail man stepped on it, it wouldn't have broken or anything like that.
Very important that the retailers
package the glasses fairly well because nobody likes waiting a couple weeks to
receive glasses only to find out that they got crushed in the mail.
So unless the mailman actually runs over this thing with the mail truck, chances
are these glasses are going to survive any sort of shipping.
And just taking a peek at the glasses themselves now,
the frames seemed fine, the lenses seemed fine - a little bit of dust
and debris,
but I ended up washing them off. I actually ran it through the "hot water test" which...
you'll see the "after"
picture
in a little bit. And it passed the "hot water test", which is good, because
sometimes the AR coatings crack - but I would expect that if I'm paying $28
dollars
for an AR coating it won't crack and in this case it didn't, so that was a good
thing.
So when we get to the end, I guess the question is "Would
I buy from Eyeglass Direct again?"
and
you know I suppose I didn't have any problems with the glasses themselves,
except that everything's just kind of really expensive. I mean, you can find
glasses on the web for a lot cheaper. So personally I'd tend to shy away,
for that reason alone though.
If there were frames that I really liked from there and I didn't mind paying the
money, no problem.
As far as "Would I recommend Eyeglass Direct to others?",
same sort of situation -
if you're looking for glasses that are $20 or less...
probably not going to fit the bill here. Obviously an AR coating is pretty
high and is going to jack up the price if that's something you're looking for.
But... you know
because there weren't any real problems, I definitely wouldn't recommend against
them.
One thing that might really help anyone who lives in New York City
or the New York area... they've actually got a physical retail outlet there.
If you
live in the area, heck, why not walk in there and check them out
and take a look.
And if you order from them online and you live in the area, you don't have to pay for shipping -
you can just pick it up for free.
So that will conclude the review and keep it under 4 minutes here.
If you'd like to send in some comments or if you've
ordered from a retailer online before -
not necessarily Eyeglass Direct, but any retailer, feel free to head over to the
EyeglassRetailerReviews.com website
and find the little "Contact Me" link in the left bar and just send me a
message letting me know how things went with you!
And we'll see you next time...
