God of War was one of the best action games for the Playstation 2. It was a polished title
that showed off what the action genre was capable of. People were excited to see what
the series could do with the PS3 hardware. To get those people pumped, they re-released
God of War, with HD graphics, an improved frame-rate and trophies. And while the PS2
was not that old, it is amazing to see what these improvements do to make the game better.
The original version looked great on the PS2. So good it seemed not necessary to improve
the graphics. But the HD does really keeps the game alive and kicking. What putting the
game in HD does is make the graphics just pop. The environments just have that extra
level of polish. The textures look amazing and the character models are incredible. Kratos
looks even meaner than before, and the destruction he creates is even more impressive. This is
the way God of War was meant to look. The attacks look better, the details in the environments
stand out and the decapitations looks amazing. The improvements are striking when compared
to the cut-sceens, which have not been touched. Everything looks better, even the side-missions.
But while the graphics keep the game relevant in this console generation with looks, the
frame-rate really helps the action. God of War did not have the deepest combat system
but it was one of the most functional. With the game running at 60 frames per second,
it makes the combat even better. It is easier to time your attacks, blocks, and dodge without
any slowdowns or hick-ups. The action is even smoother than before, which makes the great
combat just that much better.
Another great addition is the trophies, which gives you even more reason to try new things.
Some are easy while others, like beating the game in under five hours can really challenge
even God of War veterans.
God of War was a great game for the PS2. It had a good story, better visuals, and some
of the best action gameplay. This HD release improves on the only things about the game
that have aged. This makes for a great way for newcomers to experience one of the best
games of the last generation. And gives fans even more reason to play through again with
all the improvements.
