Christina: Hello! And welcome to Lincoln Lately.
My name is Christina,
and today we have a special guest.
Here's Ana.
Ana: My name is Ana Hernandez.
Today our special guest is Mr. Abraham Lincoln,
the new president.
I have some questions for you Mr. Abraham Lincoln.
When you were a child did you ever think
you would be the president of the United States?
Lincoln: Well, as a child I never thought
I would be a president. Hmm.
As a child, I lived on a farm so I had to do chores
such as tending the animals and cutting wood.
I briefly went to school in the years 1820 and 1822.
I still had a desire to learn so I would read any book
I could get my hands on.
Christina: Hello and welcome back to Lincoln Lately.
Woman 1: Breaking news, Virginia just seceded!
[Someone says "uh oh"]
[Kids boo and yell]
Let's take it to the streets to see how people feel about this.
Chloe: Hi, I'm Chloe Fisher
and I'm here in Harpers Ferry, Virginia,
and Virginia has just seceded.
Let's see what the people think about this.
Excuse me young ladies, may I ask you some questions?
How do you feel about secession?
What do you think Lincoln should do?
Woman 1: The truth is, there is no provision
in the Constitution or laws to authorize
the Government to take a single step
or to put down secession.
Woman 2: I propose that the armies of the U.S.
at once invade the State, move upon and occupy Richmond.
Lauryn: Hi, I'm Lauryn and I'm here to find out
what this local shopkeeper thinks
President Lincoln should do about Virginia secession.
Woman 3: Mr. Lincoln may try the experiment of coercion.
It will probably only drive all the Border States to secession,
and succeed in establishing the permanent division
of the Union by the slave line.
Lauryn: Thank you.
Christina: Today,
Lincoln has a special question for Robert E. Lee.
Lincoln: Yo Bobby!
Can you come command my army please?
Lee: I gotta roll with the South on this one.
Lincoln: That's whack man.
Lee: You're whack.
Christina: We have just received news that
there is a battle at Bull Run.
Let's take you to some live coverage.
Soldier 1: Forward march!
[Drumming]
[Someone says "Fire!"]
[Gunshots]
[Cannon fire and gunshots]
Ana: Hi, I'm Ana Hernandez with the Confederate soldiers.
What are you fighting for?
Confederate soldier: I'm fighting for Virginia
because it got invaded by the North.
Ana: Okay, thank you so much for your answer.
Hi, I'm Ana Hernandez and I'm with the Union army.
Why are you serving your country?
Union soldier: I'm fighting to preserve the Union
and free another human's life.
Ana: Thank you for your answer.
Christina: Welcome back to the Lincoln Lately show.
We have President Lincoln back in our studio today
with our reporter Lauryn.
Lauryn?
Lauryn: President Lincoln,
how do you feel about the battle at Bull Run?
Lincoln: It's damned bad.
Lauryn: What are you going to do next?
Lincoln: Hopefully we can get the country back together.
Lauryn: Thank you President Lincoln.
Back to Christina.
