Can you talk a little bit about kind of the suffering that you've gone through, get a
little deeper into what that experience is and how, I don't know, tell us about that.
Sure, sure. Well, I mean, kind of the, from the fourth grade to my twenty-something years,
you know, all through high school, middle school, I continued to be teased, mocked in
lockers, I also adopted the nickname "Monkey Girl" 'cause my arms and legs grew before
the rest of my body. I was a super, super-late bloomer, so that was really hard for me. Never
kissed a boy, you know all those kinds of things. People were really mean to you. Yeah,
and I was kind of a bulls eye, 'cause I was getting great grades, you know, was the top
of my class, all parents and teachers loved me 'cause I was like a good, well-behaved kid.
And so, that was part of my karma, part of my journey, and this kind of overachiever
thing really propelled me. And when I graduated from high school and was choosing a college,
I felt well where can I go to school where no one from my high school was going, so I
can reinvent myself. 'Cause I thought all it required was changing my zip code, you know,
moving to a new place. And if I had a new environment, if my external circumstances
changed, then my internal experience could. Unfortunately, that is not the way it works.
It's like wherever you go, there you are, right? So, I went to college in Chicago, at
Northwestern, and there I was again, like all my insecurities were still there, and
by then, you know, my braces and mouth appliances were gone, my acne had cleared off, I got
contacts, I wasn't wearing big glasses, but I still saw myself as this nerdy, awkward
loser, you know? And so, what did I do, I went back into my overachiever mentality.
I had a double major, I worked, I had internships, I was all about my grades, I graduated, we
were on quarter systems, and I graduated in three years and a quarter, I came in as a
sophomore. It was just all about rushing through life and proving myself, and totally Jasmin,
living in "when, thens." You know, when I graduate, then I'll be happier, when I get
a boyfriend, then I'll feel confident about myself, or when I lose five pounds, then I'll
really like myself. That was totally mine, the five pounds. Oh yeah, 'cause five pounds.
If losing five pounds really changed your life, none of us would be in business. I know, but you really believe it.
Can you pause there real quick?
