Hey guys, this is Heather from healthyeatingstartshere.com. I’ve been talking a lot lately about vegan
grocer list on a budget – grocery list and how to maintain a healthy diet and get a healthy
grocery list but keep it on a budget, all that kind of stuff.
Today, I wan to talk about the things that are important to leave off of your list, because
it’s just as important of what you actually buy. When I first met Phil, he would always
buy those baby carrots – they come with those little bags and it’s really expensive.
When I showed him how much cheaper the regular carrot where, he was pretty impressed – that
might have helped my chances. Now, he sees them as much of a rebuff as I do.
Some things that I used to buy and don’t any more – mainly condiments, sauces, things
in jars, things in jars because they often have things added to them.
Salad dressings that come from jars have a lot of salt, sugar, preservative and chemicals.
So, I make all of my own stuff, which doesn’t make a lot of time as you might think. I have
the links to some of the dressings and sauces that I’ve made.
A good meal is hugely dependent on the seasoning and the sauce. So, if you made a good sauce,
you can make any meal taste good. That’s an important skill to learn and it’s really
fun to do it yourself, as supposed to getting them from one of the jars at the grocery stores.
And then, if someone asks your – wow, what’s in it, you say it’s your little secret.
Some of the things that I don’t buy anymore – occasionally I do but for the most part,
I don’t but bread or pitas, or pizza crust, things like that. I tend to eat mostly whole
grains right now.
I even made pizza crust out of whole grains, just to satisfy Phil’s pizza cravings.
He also likes pitas occasionally, so – he’s been on a bit of a pita cake lately but I
like to do lettuce wraps or just wrap things in nori, kinda like a suchi but you put pretty
anything in there if you want to.
Some other things that I don’t buy anymore, obviously meat, I don’t think about replacing
meat. I think about rally awesome plant meals. And then some eggs, dairy, those things that
I’ve replaced with other foods.
You can check out the details over at my blog, healthyeatingstartshere.com. but, basically,
I just wanted to touch base with you guys and see what kind of things you leave-off
your list. How you maintain a vegan grocery list on a budget by what you replace.
Let me know, I’m sure you guys have some interesting tips on thinks you’ve substituted.
Leave me a comment and I know other people will appreciate it as well.
