Another dragon egg video!
House Targaryen!
Dragon eggs!
From the Game of Thrones!
Hey guys!
Ray Pajar from Get Crafty Crafty!
and today I'm going to show you guys
how to make these three dragon eggs
inspired by the Game of Thrones.
If you guys remember our last dragon egg video,
which you guys can check out right here.
I showed you guys how to make
a dragon egg using
plaster of paris.
Today we're going to be using
plastic spoons and hot glue.
The cool thing about these dragon eggs
is that, compared to our last project
you can actually open them up
and store candy
or anything else inside these dragon eggs.
Lets go ahead and get started
with todays project.
The items that you'll need
for todays project include:
plastic spoons,
you'll need about 48 of these,
a large plastic Easter egg
a hot glue gun,
a lot of hot glue sticks,
some pliers,
and a verity of spray paint
if you decide to color your egg.
Using your pliers
you want to carefully trim off
the handle of your spoon.
If there are any sharp points
on your spoon scale
you're just going to use your pliers
to trim those off.
Do this to about 48 of your spoons.
For this project you have two options
when it comes toward decorating your Easter egg.
You can either seal your egg shut
so that it's just a decorative piece.
Or you can spend a little bit more time
and layer your scales
so that you're still able to open your
Easter egg.
And use it as a functional egg
for an Easter egg hunt.
Using the same technique
From our Lotus candle holder video,
we're going to take our spoons,
and carefully apply
hot glue onto the base of the spoon,
with the top of the spoon
pointing toward the bottom of your egg.
You're going to create a
base for your dragon egg.
Apply your first two spoons
on the base of your egg
so that they are across from each other
and the top of the spoon
is pointing down.
Glue your next two spoon pieces
in between your first two pieces.
So that you have four
evenly spaced out spoons
at the bottom of your egg.
If you plan to have it
so that your egg can still open,
make sure you only glue
your two spoons on just one shell
and not on the second shell
and have it so that
it's slightly elevated
so that your first shell
can actually click into
the other shell.
After you've glued your first four spoons
glue your next four
so that you have a total of 8
evenly spread out spoons
At the base of your egg.
Using the same technique
that we used to create
our Lotus candle holders
your going to take your next 8 spoons
and glue them in between
your first set of 8.
You're going to glue them about half way
over the previous set of spoons.
When you're creating your opening dragon egg
pay attention to the bottom two spoons
that are only
glued onto one Easter egg.
Those are going to be the spoons
that will remind you
not to glue the other spoons
along this pattern
to the other egg.
Use a Sharpie
to mark it off
so that you remember.
Continue to glue your spoons
until you have
6 alternating layers
of 8 spoons.
Remember with your special spoon
It should only be glued
onto one side of your egg
and anything along this line
should be slightly elevated
so that when you
put your two halves together
they can still fit.
Go ahead and glue all your spoons.
After creating
your six layers of spoons
you're going to create
the last two layers
for the top of your egg
but instead of using an
8 spoon pattern
you're going to use
2 sets of 4
to create the top.
Glue your first set
of 4 spoons
on the top of your egg
so that it creates
a little cross.
You want to make sure
that you're also not gluing it
on the crack of your egg
so that you're able to open
and close your Easter egg.
Take your last set
of 4 spoons
and glue it at an angle
on the top of your Easter egg.
You want to have it at an angle
so that it creates a
a dome for the top of your piece
so that it kinda looks
more like a dragon egg.
You also want to get
a 5th spoon
and use it to support
these 3 spoons
on one side of your shell
so that it can hold together.
Depending on the arrangement of your spoons
and if you plan to have
an opening Easter egg
you're going to have
thats not attached
to the center supporting spoon.
Make sure that this spoon
is glued in really well
so that it could support itself
when you're putting
and taking apart
your Easter egg.
For each dragon egg
I use about 3 to 4 types
of different spray paints.
To create the right color and tone
for each egg.
I used a base color of
dark green, dark red and brown
and then I used a verity of
either darker or lighter spray paints
to texture and create the right tone
and then I used
either some kind of dark or metallic paint
to give it that nice kind of shine.
The cool thing about these eggs
is that they look like dragon eggs
they're pretty durable
and if you decided to go with this option
you can still open them up
and use them for Easter.
Imagine going on an Easter egg hunt
and having a bunch of dragon eggs
compared to the small regular Easter eggs.
