I want to thank Bill Kos of Ozark Missouri
for the great suggestion about not just competitive contracting,
but cost-plus contracts.
As a way of explanation,
cost-plus really is a dangerous thing to have in government.
Essentially, what the government tells the contractor is,
we will pay your costs, whatever they are,
plus some profit on top.
What that is, is an incentive for businesses
to actually overcharge the government.
Think about it, if you know the more you spend,
the more you're gonna make,
that is not the kind of contracts
that are in the taxpayer's best interest.
So his suggestion is a great one,
there's a reason it moved up the suggestion list
because other people saw it, so yes,
Mr.Kos from Ozark Missouri,
we're gonna look very carefully
not just at competitive contracts,
but the terms of the contract to see if we can eliminate
all those cost-plus and get back to a fixed price
which is a much better bargain for the public's money.
