My name is Julian Barnard. I have worked with Bach flower remedies for more than 30 years.
Bach flower remedies are used to treat the emotional state of the person,
which Dr Bach believed was the cause of the problems.
Whether they are in the physical body or they are mental problems,
it is the emotional state of the person that we try to treat.
They are often used in combination with other forms of therapy by health professionals,
also they are very popular as a means of self-healing because they are completely safe.
The Healing Herbs Pocket Prescriber has a brief description of each of the 38 Bach remedies.
The First Twelve describe an essential personality, the type remedy we say,
it shows whether we are a shy and nervous person,
which would be Mimulus,
or somebody determined and outgoing which would be Vervain.
If it is difficult to identify your own type remedy, think how you feel when you are ill.
An Impatiens person will be irritable, impatient to be well;
a Clematis person may enjoy being in bed because they like the feeling of dreaming and drifting away.
A Chicory type will seek attention, and want to be comforted.
In each case taking the remedy will help to rebalance our emotional body
and help us to return to a positive frame of mind.
The Seven Helpers refer to conditions which build up over a period of time, such as Gorse.
This flower, Dr Bach said, was for feelings of hopelessness.
Then come The Second Nineteen, which are emotional responses to traumatic events.
For instance, think how you might feel if you had an accident.
You might continually replay the event in your mind – and it go round and round – which is White Chestnut.
If it leads to lack of confidence, then Larch is the flower essence to use.
It is usual to make a combination of no more than six flowers.
Take a dosage bottle, then fill it with brandy and water, and take two drops from the stock bottle.
Four drops are then taken from this dosage bottle four times a day,
or simply put the drops in a glass of water & sip at regular intervals.
Certain combinations come ready made, ‘Five Flower’ for instance, for emergencies — and for immediate stress relief.
There’s a combination for concentration: ‘Exam’; another for relaxation called ‘Rest’.
All self-explanatory.
The ‘Five Flower’ is also made up as a cream, useful for anything: bites, stings, skin irritation, even bruising.
The sooner you apply it, the sooner it soothes & helps to heal.
Bach flower remedies help us rebalance our mental and emotional condition
which was, in Bach’s view, the principal cause of all our problems.
