Sound is for me a pretext, a means by which to illustrate
the paths that people follow
within the context of time....and sound has many paths.
A piano has octaves, the bouzouki has
"musical roads", as we say...other instruments too...
These "roads" are time signatures. Time is endless,
it is an invisible pace that follows us everywhere.
I see people moving in blind alleys
I don't say this from pessimism but I think that
every space in which we live, be it natural or man made
like our cities, are blind alleys. These blind alleys,
these grey spaces, have a pressing need
for expression...man has a need for expression....
Here you can see the entaglement of sound,
or rather, the interweaving between our souls and sound.
That's why I use integral sound instruments
like trumpets and harmonicas. For me, sound is
a force that flows from our inner needs and often we're enslaved
by our friends, our relatives, our companions....
by society as a whole.
People who play instruments, like that jazz sax player
the boy who plays the guitar..
the anonymous Venetian harpist
who is condemned to forever play for tourists in Piazza
San Marco! Always and forever!
These are all expressions that stem
from life experience because I believe
that all people have their own take on life...
Itried not to make the work dramatic.. I express action, not drama...
because I'm not pessimistic by nature.
