South Africa's Police Service is investigating alleged misconduct by officers in Cape Town
after this footage was posted to Facebook yesterday. It shows uniformed policemen removing
a man's underwear so that he is left in just his socks before proceeding to kick and slap
him in the groin area.
At least three women, who appear to be the ones filming the footage, can be heard discussing
what is going on in the street below them. At the end of the video they can be heard
shouting out of the window directly to the officers involved.
It is not yet clear what happened prior to the incident but according to the South African
news organisation eNCA, the man being beaten was later taken to Cape Town Central Police
Station and arrested for allegedly interfering with police business. However, he was later
released without being charged.
The two officers seen beating the man in this footage are confirmed to be members of the
Western Cape Kensington Police force and are reportedly based at the Cape Town Central
Police Station. According to eNCA they have now been suspended.
