Hi, welcome to OLBG’s betting preview for the 2013 Champion Hurdle.
The horse most likely to run his race this year seems to be Hurricane Fly who was undoubtedly
below par when only third in the race last year. OLBG member ‘Mogga82’ is one of
those who is most confident about Hurricane Fly, on the OLBG Cheltenham Festival Forum
he has picked holes in the form of all of the Fly’s rivals whilst suggesting that
Hurricane Fly looks very much back to his best, proven by his runs so far this season.
Mogga82 doesn’t think Zarkander, the current second favourite, has the speed for a Champion
Hurdle on spring ground and points out that Ruby Walsh rides Hurricane Fly instead of
Zarkander. Because he is opposing Zarakander, Mogga82 can’t have Grandouet either who
has been defeated in all three races against Zarkander. Mogga82 thinks last year’s winner
Rock on Ruby is the biggest danger to Hurricane Fly but reckons his selection is the best
hurdler since Istabraq so won’t be beaten here.
OLBG member ‘RentonT’ thinks that Hurricane Fly has this race at his mercy with any cut
in the ground likely to suit Hurricane Fly much more than last year’s winner Rock on
Ruby
Meanwhile ‘SmeeMartin’ reckons tactics could be crucial this year with a slow gallop
expected in the race. He reckons that Hurricane Fly has been ridden more prominently this
season with a tactical race at Cheltenham in mind.
