Good Morning, Everybody! Good Morning, Pastor!
How IS everybody today? Good!
Maybe...Are we awake?
YES! I'm awake, too.
(Viv talking). Pastor: That's good!
In our Purple Bag this morning we have what Pastor thinks of
is, uh ... something noisy.
Who would like to look in
The Purple Bag this morning? Viv,
you have not looked in a long time, so you can look.
(Viv reaches into The Purple Bag,
and she pulls out ...
a box that rattles.)
Do you know what that is, Viv?
Viv guesses candy.
Aiden, do you know what it is?
What is it? (Candy). Well, it's candy, yeah but
Do you know what KIND of candy this is?
William?
William guesses.
Well you never know.
Caleb? Hot tamales? Hot tamales!
Have you guys ever had hot tamales? Caleb has, huh?
When Pastor was your age ...
You know what? Pastor didn't like these.
You don't like 'em? Why don't you like 'em, Caleb?
(Cuz they're hot.) Cuz they have FIRE right on the
package, don't they? (Cinnamon flavored.) Yes!
Cinnamon-flavored fire. (Children murmuring.) You put
'em on your tongue and they burn.
Yes, they DO. (William shaking his head "No"!) You don't even
know what they were. How do know? When I asked you
what they were, (laughter) You can't blame Mom on this onel
So ....
When Pastor was your age, yes, he would put it on his
tongue and it hurt. And you know what he would do?
Spit them out. (Caleb comments.) Yeah, not a good
thing. And it reminded me of
what must have happened to Isaiah in our Old Testament
Lesson and in our sermon. Isaiah was up in heaven and he
saw God on His throne and he said to God:
I'm ruined. I can't speak.
And do you remember what God did?
God took a COAL, a coal that was on FIRE,
and touched it to his lips ...
and made him clean. That made him able to speak,
so that his words would tell the sweetness of God.
And that's what these hot tamales reminded me of and
you know what else is fun now? Pastor likes these!
(Yeah, I like these.) You do?
You haven't had them, Viv, I thought.
(Children murmuring while Pastor nods agreement.)
Well, we'll maybe see about that later on. Okay.
But sometimes when we grow up, we understand
things and, you're gonna grow up, yes, you're gonna grow up.
You're gonna be a big girl. (Grow up?) Yes. Everybody
grows up. Karli's gonna grow up; we're all gonna grow up,
and we're all gonna be big people some day.
Yes!
And you know what? We're gonna understand God's love
even better, because we'll have more time with Jesus and
we'll understand He forgives our sins and that's what makes
our life sweet, sweeter than any candy. So ...
anybody have any questions? To our hot tamales? Yes, Brandon.
(Is candy food?) Candy IS
food, but it's special food. It's not really
nutritious food and you should only have a little bit of it
when you really want a special treat.
Okay? Can't have candy for breakfast.
No. Nor for
lunch or dinner. Yeah. Maybe after
dinner if your mom and dad says you can.
Or after lunch. Yes.
Or after church, which we'd better get back to.
So, you guys can go back to your moms and dads
and we'll join together in this morning's sermon hymn.
