- The American Heart Association and Stroke Association
is in the business of saving and improving lives.
So back in 2010, we set a pretty aggressive impact goal.
And we said that we are gonna improve
the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20%,
while reducing deaths linked to cardiovascular disease
and stroke by 20%.
There is some key focuses that we're trying to drive forth
in order to accomplish that goal.
And through the BetterU Challenge,
we are able to accomplish one of the largest pieces,
which is getting awareness out about the need for folks
to take their health into great consideration.
- The BetterU Challenge is a 12-week journey
where 10 women living in our community
have been selected to go on this journey
to really learn about a healthier heart lifestyle.
- The BetterU booklets that they were provided
give them a 12-week synopsis of how
they need to monitor their health.
It's truly the outcomes of the research
and medical advancements
that the Heart Association and Stroke Association have made
that we compiled into that booklet
for them to be able to reference and use as a resource
throughout their journey.
- The guidelines were very simple to follow,
and every week we kind of went through those.
Don't let yourself get overwhelmed.
Look at taking small steps.
The group support is really just phenomenal
for keeping everybody motivated.
And I just watched it on Facebook.
Sometimes people would be having a bad day,
and then you get the feedback from everybody.
And it's motivating and you feel supported.
You just don't feel like you're alone.
- When you can do something positive for others,
and you can add to their life, it is a great feeling.
And that is something that FPL takes very seriously.
We view ourselves as a community partner,
and it's something that is really part of our culture.

- [Women] Let's go BetterU!
- The BetterU Challenge was absolutely successful.
We had tremendous support from not only our
relationship with FPL, but these women came in
eager and energetic to make a change in their life.
- I just would say I'm super proud,
and I'm very much gonna miss them,
'cause I had a lot of fun.
- After 12 weeks, I can say congratulations.
I think it has been a huge success to know
that 10 women have taken positive steps in their lives.
So what a journey that we've all gone on,
and what a benefit that we all got to know each other
and did it together.
- Thank you.
- [Woman Two] Thank you.
- [Woman Three] Thank you.
- [Woman Four] Thank you.
- [Woman Five] Thank you.
- [Woman Six] Thank you.
- Thank you, FPL.
