North Korea has released the results of its first national election under its young leader
Kim Jong-un, two days after the vote. The North's Central Election Committee said
Tuesday all 6-hundred-87 candidates running for a spot in the Supreme People's Assembly
won 100 percent of the vote. We must note there is only one state-sanctioned
candidate for each constituency in these elections to ensure a foregone conclusion.
Kim Kyong-hui, the aunt of the young leader, was retained as a party member, despite the
execution of her husband Jang Song-thaek last year, while officials who had connections
to Jang failed to secure a spot. Kim Jong-un's younger sister, Kim Yo-jong,
was also not included in the list.
